Cycle2Work scheme... buying a bike for someone?

    Hi folks,

Wondering if someone can help me out. Last week my girlfriend got her bike robbed in Dublin c.c. Seeing as it's coming up to her birthday, I thinking of buying her a new bike. We had a look around Eurocycles and she fell in love with one particular bike. Now, the cost to buy the bike straight out is €479... under the scheme it's working out at €349.

Does anyone know if it's possible to pay the balance of €349 and then get the invoice for her employer? However, seeing as it's linked in with PRSI and all that jazz... this probably is not possible, right? I do know that her company are signed up to this scheme.

Just wondering what would be best way to approach it? Or am I just better of paying the full whack for the bike hence the element of surprise as she is not being consulted for employer details, etc etc...

    Thanks all!

    Dutch

Just pay it. If it's done under the C2W scheme she has to do all the running herself - plus she then won't be eligible to purchase another bike under the scheme for another 5 years.

It sadly won't be much of a surprise if she has to get the ionvoice from the cycle shop and return it to payrole in order to arrange the deductions, then she'll have to collect the cheque from payrole,

In short, if you want a surprise then pay for it outright I'm afraid

Another alternative is get it under your bike to work scheme if you've not used it, but then you can't use it for 5 years

That was the first thing that poped into my head. Forget about contacting her employer, it's not worth the hassle and if I was one I wouldn't facilitate the boyfriend of an employee.

Seems like paying the full plus €5 for the bow to tie around it.

If you can't do it through your employer, put an ad up for someone who can. I suggest:

"Wanted - cupid-type in gainful employment. Must be non-cyclist"

Thanks to all that responded! I like the idea of running the bike through my employers books... so I've sent an email to my FC to suss it all out. I have one of those annual bus tickets so I am waiting for word back to see if I can be on both schemes...

Truth be told, for the sake of a few quid, I'll probably just buy the bike straight out. I like the idea of saving a few quid, but not as much as I like the idea of having a quiet life!

    Thanks all!

    Dutch.
