    Hi guys,

Like many on here, I want to be a teacher, have an ok degree in Legal Science and Economics, graduated in 2007, have been working in the legal sector since, I have a job and its fine but I know that I really want to be a teacher. It wasn't something I really thought about in college but since I've finished I know its where my heart lies...

According to the TC I am qualified to teach economics and business studies however given quotas etc I do not have nearly enough points, would anyone be able to recommend a Masters which would be benficial to improve my standing? I know there are numerous grad-dips and masters programmes out there but I want something that will improve my standing, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am about to begin the JEB programme in September to teach IT however I am aware that this is merely a supplementary subject in most schools.

    Thanks for any advice....

The JEB won't qualify you to teach at second level as such, you will still need the PGDE. FAS look for JEB when hiring people I believe but not second level schools.

Cant you increase your points by doing some subbing work? Also as it would be fairly difficult to find a job in business studies and economics ( economics is not offered in a huge number of schools) Id look into the possibility of doing an add on course of some kind to gain another subject to teach - whether that be a masters or a Post Grad diploma.

Subbing hours no longer count for NUI application for the HDip. They probably help for Trinity but they have an interview

It was announced in 2008/2009 I think that this years batch of PGDE students would be the last that could get points based on teaching experience
