Iv tried to spot a bit of value so iv gone & backed two long odds golfers in the shape of :

    1. Sean O'Hair - Has some pretty decent form in the Majors this year so iv thrown a few quid on him each way @ 40/1.

    2. Zach Johnson - Has made 16 out of 18 cuts this year but has only made 1 top 10 finish but im hoping he will click here . E/w @ 70/1

2 obvious choices for me this week

    Woods 5/1
    Westwood 15/1

My full preview is live now for anyone interested with a few different markets.

Harrington (22) has a great record here. If he can drive more like he did on Sunday last week instead of the first 3 days, he will be a factor again.

Steve Stricker (30) is being widely tipped this week but he's on my radar for next week in his home state.

with you on els, will you be making picks on Turning Stone?

Not on site but the market leaders at Turning Stone (say the first 7 or 8 in the betting) are a cut above most of the field.

I use a trading system I devised to do with probabilities which includes spreading multiple units across those likely to hit the top and/or build a lead at some stage later on in the tournament and you won't be surprised to hear that I've picked players from the aforementiond top 8.

John Senden (25) Rory Sabbitini (30)and Charles Howell (22) are the most notable for me. The 3 best players in the field IMO and all capable of going very low in what will be abirdie fest this week. All have good course form and decent current form.

No value in Taylor and De Jonge for me although I expect them up there too, especially De Jonge who is right up there in the birdie stats and playing really well.

Matthew Goggin (100/1) is my sleeper pick - 2 top 5's here in last 3 tournaments and good performance last week. Can draw inspiration from fellow Aussie Appleby's success last year.

Stroud and Streelman and even Chopra (who isn't having the best time at the moment)are also triple figue odds to watch out for top 20's or better. All can make a lot of birdies.

Fill your boots from that lot :)

Given Tigers record around here I think this could be his genuine turning point... so €20 on him at 9/2!

    Plus a fiver E/W on A Kim @ 50/1

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 182 ✭✭deewhy

    3 picks for this week:

Ricky Fowler @ 100 - he will come good one of these weeks!
Matt Kucher @ 75 - no 1 on combined stats on tour bits looked to threaten for a while last week.
Camilo Villegas @ 95 - not on great form but has it within him.

    Have also backed Battencourt @ 33's e/w for turning point and e/w double with fowler @ 80's. - 2 ew singles & e/w double

Cracking write up, on turning stone aswell. Also Dave Tindall has a write up if anyone's interested: http://www.golf365.com/news_story/0,17923,9785_6293525,00.html

I have Ollie Fisher @400/1 and Greg Bourdy @570/1 on Betfair. Small stakes.

What about Overton, seems in good form think he has 4 top 3's in his last 7 tournaments, much stronger field here but seems like a good outsider, gambling sites are blocked here in work so cant check his odds but id say he is a big enough price!

80/1 Betfred best price or 85/1 Betfair.

He's possibly the hottest player in the field.
Depends how he handled last weeks 2nd place tbh, if hes recovered mentally and physically.

Yeah seen he had a bit of a meltdown on the 17th!

You will see from the Irish Open thread, I backed Overton last week. I would be hugely surprised if he were to win based on his whole reaction to the pressure coming from behind. His reaction on 17 said it all. His swing worries me and although a big hitter, I think he needs a few sessions with the head doctor before he wins. Could get some advice from Harrington!!

Going for Cabrera this week on Betfair at 120. Has a couple of top 5 finishes here in last 4 years and the course should suit his game.

    Big price. Good value.

cheers m8, might have a few quid e/w on Goggin

also already done JM Singh, looks to be getting over his shoulder injuries, and shot a final round 64 here last year, could go well in what as you've pointed out is a very weak field compared to most weeks

    Stricker 28/1 e/w and Furyk 35/1 e/w for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭heavyballs

    Westwood win only @14/1
    Ryan Moore @100/1 e/w
    Van Pelt @110/1 e/w
    Top 20 Charl Swartzel @7/4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭badbrian

Have backed Furyk 35/1 & Rose 40/1 both ew. Furyk based on Bettingzone tip and Rose because he was hottest player on planet a month ago. Can't imagine he has fallen too far since.

Some good write ups and tips here but I can't see past Tiger myself.

Not the most revelating post of all time but I really fancy him this week. There isn't much point going into much detail as everyone is well aware of the whole saga of late but course record can't be discounted here. Seven wins in 9 is immense. Considering last time out he was 9/4 to win this I'll gladly take the 4/1 on offer.

    Tiger to win @ 4/1

bad start to say the least, the following is why i hate Paddy P,Woods 9/2 at the start of the week,he bogeys the easy 1st hole and bogey's the v easy par 5 2nd which is easily reachable, they push him out to 13/2,ffs

my question, what price would he be if he birdied the first 2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

Decent start for my two picks , O'Hair going nicely along at -3 while Johnson is just under par at -1. Overton has a few followers here as well so good to see him doing well also.Did i hear the commentary correctly that their is no cut in this tournament ? Why is this out of curiosity?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 813 ✭✭✭wiger toods

backed johnson this morning at 75/1 in boyles e5 ew. just looking at it now, he has a bit of work to do, not as much as tiger woods though.

Must say its driving me nuts watching this on sky , ad breaks every 8 or 9 minutes - still not gonna make me wanna buy a golf buddy!

Phil at 9/4 looks tempting, any thoughts lads?
Rory looks like he has a really low one in him if he gets that putter goin

also in the lesser event in the states,i think Steve Elkington at 20/1 is worth a score,he's 3 behind,if i had a betfair account i would back with the hope to lay as he may crap himself but he's playing very well and for a change is putting very well

11/4 for Phil on B/F - but unless you are lumping on there is no value. Wait for in running and if he makes a slow start you could pick him up in double digits. This is where you need to B/F account. Rory is better value at the moment but I still like one of my picks Kuchar.

Kucher's playing well but i can't see him being there come Sunday evening,i'm on Van Pelt from the start,he's playing crap, scrambling around like mad
anyway i don't have a betfair account as they're banned on this work laptop,he's had a few blips the last couple of days,i think he could well be leading tonight
i don't think Rory is better value but he's defo not out of it

i'm just back from bookies, backed Phil @9/4 and Rory Sab @11/4 in a trixie

and Steve Elk e/w @20/1,that's me done for the week

well not looking good for me apart from Bo for me,.........who'll win now ?i don't like him but Els is joint fav in my book with O Heir,,he's 9/1,overpriced imo, only 1 bogey in the last 32 holes is very goodmif he gets his putter going he'll be hard to beat

Ernie Els looks about the best bet on the face of it at the moment at 15\2.

I know Phil Mickelson played horribly, but I'd be surprised to see him do it twice in a row wit the no 1 spot at stake.

May lump on the 6\4 for the place

I would have lumped on that had I seen it earlier.

Still have Overton and Van Pelt in contention, hopefully one of them(namely Van Pelt) is placed.

yeah me too,i'm on him from the start at 110/1,i'm not confident though, that's why i had a sizeable bet on Els last night

Anyway thank you Mr. Van Pelt :D

yeah i needed that big time,he scrambled great all week, wasn't exactly vintage golf the first few days,at one stage on Friday he was less that 30% fairways hit for the tourney

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,853 ✭✭✭Kod-box

Furyk finished 6th in the end, was sure he got joint 5th for me to scrape something in the end but not to be :(

I think he'll be worth a few quid at the PGA though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

If it was only a 3 round tournament i had it with O'Hair! Still got a couple of shillings for his 5th place finish so not too bad . Hunter Mahan kinda came out of nowhere on the Sunday . I hope people didnt lose too much on Els - what a stinker of a last round.
