got a spare pc just for mame, spec ati x800xl, celeron 2.93, this should just be a grand spec for most games i believe

just looking to play a few old games have be using a saitek p2600 joypad but it just dont feel right, just wondering what your recomendations are either in stores or line,

something cheep and cheerful that will work happily with neo-geo and mame games mostly

i tought i should post this thread here rather than the genral games forum as i believe there may be a few people using mame in arcade and retro

Since Super Street Fighter 4 came out the Vanilla SF4 sticks have been going for cheap now. Excellent sticks. The tournament edition is a work of art but the fight stick is still great as well and it's very easy to modify with seimetsu or sanwa parts if you want to upgrade it later on.

XBox 360 pad? Cheap, plug and play.

It's also as useful as a cock flavoured lolipop for 2D gaming. The D-pad is beyond rubbish.

I have the 360 pad and its a great pad but it just doesnt really feel the part when playing emulators. Im going to be getting myself an aul joystick whenever I can afford it!

Check out Playasia.com They have quite a few sticks and controllers at a wide variety of different prices, I'm sure you will find something your looking for there.

Hori EX2 (360) and FS2 (PS3) are decent, but buttons break with intensive use after approx. 2-3 months and then you need soldering skills.
Hori Real Arcade Pro is big & expensive, worth it.

Madcatz Fightstick (aka SE) is cheap & cheerful, sh*t quality on the default parts though IMO. Easy to upgrade.
Madcatz Tournament Edition (TE) is very very nice, better quality even than Hori.

Just FYI but the above sticks are all default "8-way", so if you're emulating certain games (e.g. Pac-man) hitting diagonals can cause issues sometimes IIRC.
If you get a Madcatz, you can put in a Seimitsu stick which have very good 4-way restrictors.

Playasia shipping is a bit expensive. I know some bricks and mortar shops were selling the street fighter sticks cheap.

Also if you are using the sticks on a PC it doesn't matter what console you get it for they are both the same, so get it for which ever one you own.

Actually, the PS3 sticks don't work on (certain?) nVidia chipsets IIRC, due to being USB1.1 or something.

Do you mind if I use this in everyday speech?
I just have to try to work it into a few conversations and see how I get on.
Will report back on effects on polite company!

There's a wireless reciever for Xbox 360 pads that you can plug into your PC via USB.

Not recommended though since, as mentioned before, the Xbox 360 d-pad is Heinz's 57 varieties of nightmarish.

Get yourself a Trio Linker Plus II.

Lets you connect a Dreamcast/ps2/Gamecube pad to a pc. Or all three at once.

I'm using one with a Dreamcast stick. Works brilliantly with MAME. No lag at all.
