Hi my name's Ethan and I've recently moved down here to the South East. I'm totally new to everything in the Waterford/Kilkenny area so I would welcome any advice. In Dublin I had a personal trainer - a strong guy from Latvia - and I was very pleased with the results I got. Twice a week we did an hour of sub-grappling (which was brilliant for cardio); he also helped me with strength and build-up through weight training 45 mins two/three times a week. Would anyone know of a personal trainer experienced in sub-grappling/bodybuilding .. perhaps the bouncers might know?

You see I live between Kilkenny and Waterford so ideally I'm looking for somewhere fairly local especially as I want to train a few times per week. Also, I am specifically looking for someone who has a bit of wrestling experience. I find a lot of the Eastern European lads have a background in this as well as bodybuilding n stuff, but I haven't the faintest idea if any of them do PTing in this area?

Cheers for that David ... may be just a little too far away from me but it is certainly a contender!

I trained here for most of last year, have to say a real good guy he had me on a tough strenth and conditioning program and I got some great results, unfortunatly i got sidelined with work and family earlier this year, hoping to do the Dublin marathon this year so will be giving him a call soon..

Trained up in Waterford MMA for a little while great bunch of guy's, there is also BJJ in tramore and in Billy's on the IDA Northern exstension, I trained with the guy's in Tramore again good guy's, haven't trained in billy's but heard good things,

    Hope this helps,

Yea cheers for that mugs1 but the thing is I know from experience: each to their own, i.e., some guys specialize in marathons and stuff (cos of their background and interest) and naturally that tends to be their emphasis. I'm looking for someone whose main background, interest and knowledge is in the whole area of bodybuilding/grappling. We all know the type I'm talking about - I just wanna make contact with someone into all that, who will take me under their wing ...

Hey would anyone know if there's a hardcore gym in Kilkenny?

Ever since eurogym closed down most of the proper lifters in kilkenny joined the ormonde gym, which is part of ormonde hotel, it has all the usual stuff in cluding a squat rack.

Good to know Stephen, yea someone else mentioned that the Ormonde is good, must check it out. Any of them proper lifters do personal training I wonder?

James Fennelly is a personal trainer, so if you google him I'm sure his contact details will come up. He's been Republic of Ireland's strongest man a number of years running so I'm sure he's strong enough for ya. He's based in Kilkenny.

Hey appreciate that. Actually since I last posted I have been training away four times a week with someone who replied to this. Making brilliant progress and enjoying every minute! Best thing of all is we roll as well as part of our sessions. He has a lot of experience in weight training and in grappling and he doesn't charge me a thing - he's just happy to have someone to train with. So it just goes to prove that it is worth looking around. I have gone the PT route and it has cost me a small fortune, so, no disrespect to all the expensive PTs out there, but I really feel I fell on my feet this time.:D

Any new PTs starting out in Kilkenny or Waterford areas? Need someone to turn me into Spartacus ...

I would suggest you to search online for a good, certified and experienced personal trainer. You will find so many options to choose and you can select any one from them according to your comfort. I think its better if you opt for well known personal trainer service providers.
