iPhone4 touchscreen issue

Has anyone else got a smiliar issue?

Ported from o2 to 3 on Friday and picked up a 16GB iPhone4. As soon as I got it home I noticed there was an intermittent issue with the screen - there is a horizontal strip just below half way down the screen where the touchscreen won't respond.

If I go into settings and then sounds in instance, where the volume slider is for the ringtone, just there the screen won't respond. It is also where the send button is for SMS. Really annoying.

I have reset and restarted the phone, sometimes the issue is gone but then it comes back before long.

Really unsure how to deal with this, if I bring it back to 3 I am sure they will try to repair it and leave me without a phone for a few weeks, also I am worried that the fact that the problem is intermitten it might not show up when I bring the phone back to the store. Has anyone else had this issue?

bring it back and get a replacement, The only thing that is wrong is that the connector is lose, but you lose your warenty if you do it yourself.

    +1

dont do it yourself, not on a brand new phone. bring it back although the only issue is im sure there is no replacement there and then for you, they may have to send it off to fix and you will be without the phone for a bit.

other option is to deal directly with apple and get them to collect under their warranty scheme, they could courier out a replacement and you will have it in the next day or so.

Okay this is gone beyond a joke now.

Last Tuesday I called into the Blanchardstown 3 store where I bought the phone. I showed the fault to the guy who sold me the phone, he agreed it was faulty and said they would replace it when they had new stock in on Friday.

On Friday lunchtime I called into the shop. He went into the back to get my new phone. Then he reappeared with a pimply faced blonde girl who looked about 15 years of age. This, I was told, was the assistant manager. She proceeded to tell me that she couldn't give me a new handset and that I would have to deal with Apple as, and I quote, "We don't know how to go about processing your return here in the shop".

I told her if I was let walk out of the shop without a working handset that I would cancel my direct debit and see them in the small claims courts. She rang another assistant manager and then finally the manager, after wasting about 40 mins in there she told me the best they could do was send it off to Apple for reapir, which I could do myself and which to be honest I wouldn't trust them with.

    So I left.

3 are an absolutely pathetic joke of a company, I really think Apple will regret being associated with such a bunch of fly-by-night cowboys as this crowd. Off to ring Apple now. Is there anything else I can do to get 3 to sort this?

believe me, you don't want to try anything else. Go with apple, they have replacement units set aside to deal with faults

Yeah Alex, I know, but to be honest it just really sprinkles imaginary sand in my arse-crack that a company like 3 can get away with this kind of ****e. They have people on the floor saying "oh, we can replace it, just call in" and then they just shrug and say "Oh, my manager says I can't do it now, talk to her". I knew on Friday something was up, I walked into the shop and the guy I was dealing with came right over to me and said "Oh, great, you're here, I was trying to contact you all morning". Ah, no, you weren't. Mobile phone shop salespeople have given me a new-found respect for estate agents and traffic wardens.

true, but cut your losses and get Apple to deal with it, from my experience Apple are pretty good at dealing with replacements etc, what with 7 laptops going through my hands in two years, resulting in a free iMac!. Go with them and see what happens

Technically you do not have to deal with Apple. Three are obliged to handle your issue and give you a replacement phone, because they are the ones who supplied it to you. They cannot tell you to deal with Apple, it's three's responsibility.

In reality, Apple's returns process is second to none and they will sort the problem for you quicker and with less stress than three will.

If you contact Apple now, you will probably have a brand new working replacement in your hands by Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. Monday at the very worst, i.e. if Apple are having a bad week.

To be honest I would just walk in and get all my money back from 3. You contract is with them. It's Apple's warrantee but 3's legal requirements.

Lotta ppl unhappy with 3's performance beyond the price plans. Can't say I didn't see this coming, you get what you pay for in life.

If I deal with Apple, will they send me back an unlocked phone I wonder? Then I could just cancel my direct debit with 3 at the banks side and let them go swing for it, and go back to O2.

It will be more than likely still locked but just jb and unlock it

You can walk away from 3 and go back to O2 as long as the product provided is faulty. I wouldn't be expecting an unlocked iPhone in return from Apple, although i've heard it happen.

Spent about 2 hours on the phone to Sanjeev in 3 support, in fairness to him he was the first person from 3 to apologise and to admit it was their problem to clear up. I have been told to go to fonemenders in Clondalkin this afternoon to have the handset looked at, as it is something which cannot be repaired apparrantley.

I rang fonemenders and this eastern Europena girl answered after about 46 rings, then started saying things like "our technician will need to look at it" and "we might replace it if it is the touchscreen that is faulty". She said that they do have replacment stock there to exchange it.

I am going to go down there now and see if they exchange it, but if they won't exchange it for me today then I am going to get onto Apple and do the advanced repair thing I think. The whole thing is a disaster.

I got a faulty iPhone on launch day went back to o2 who basically said on yer bike if you think your getting a new one.

Rang apple who dispatched a phone to me on the same day and waived the 30 early replacement charge.

If it were me in your position I'd have no hesitation in ringing apple and dealing with them
