Hi, I have an old iPhine 3G, recently upgraded to 4.whatever and it's turned into a complete dog. It crawls. I've tried stuff like deleting a load of music in case working space was n issue, I've deleted a bunch on old apps but it's still crawling.

Can I revert back to 3.1.3 (I think that was the latest) legitimately?

You can try turning off Spotlight search (in Settings) first to see if that fixes the issue.

How risky is it to do this? And will apps designed for iOS4 stop working?

I thought Apple gave another update to fix this problem,

OK so before I downgraded, I decided to do an erase, restore as new iPhone and re-sync all the contacts, apps etc. My contacts had ballooned anyway so it was time for a cull. Anyway, it all seems a bit brisker now, so I'm going to stick with ios4 or whatever it's called.

Maybe it was a stupid number of contacts slowing the device down, or some corruption in the system.

    Thanks for the suggestions,

    H

Seems to work fine, I used it to move back from a iOS4 beta that was misbehaving.

If you go back to 3.x then, yes, iOS4 apps won't work and iTunes will no longer sync them.
