What Tyres?

I need 4 new tyres for a 2007 Jetta 2.0 TDI. Like everyone else, I'm looking for that magic compromise between energy efficiency, grip and price. I will be doing most of the miles on good dual carraigeway, but also about a third of the miles on country roads.

Any suggestions? Michelin Energysavers?

Those energy saving tyres are usually very expensive and I doubt you would make the extra cash back in terms of increased mpg.

Plus there is a degredation in terms of grip, road noise and steering feel which is not worth it imo.

Much more important is to play around with tyre pressures - start at manufacturer recommended and try raising/lowering slightly yourself front & rear. Depends on the compromise you want to strike but if its mpg, then you could inflate them slightly (5% ish) over manufacturer recommended.
