Ishould and think I do know the answer but anyway over to the brains on boards.ie

I played over the weekend and i see my bad golf was outside the buffer zone & eaned me a few .1's bringing me to 6.4

I also played away last week also earning another .1:rolleyes:

now the away .1 shows up in the away section and not yet on my h'cp page so I'm presumming I'm ok to play off 7

I think you have to play off your current handicap (6) until the .1 is reflected on your handicap. Generally it's ok to cut yourself after a good round, but not ok to do the reverse.

Something similar happened to me recently (though not anywhere near 7!) and I checked with my playing partners. Advice given was that you're in charge of your own handicap changes either up or down in that you should play off it irrespective of whether or not the adjustment has shown up on the computer yet. Only telling you what I was told.

You are in charge of your own handicap in terms of adjusting it downwards (if that applies then you MUST cut yourself) but you're not allowed adjust it upwards.
Play off 6.4 until the process takes place where your away score is downloaded and the .1 applied.

Also, check what your handicap is at your club computer because this is the current one (unless you know it to be lower). It's possible that the away score has been downloaded but your 'new' handicap hasn't been uploaded to golfnet yet.

Playing off an incorrect handicap - too low and it's just a little harder for you. Too high and you get disqualified.

    Quick one for you licksy,

played an open comp away there on sat and when i went to sign in my handicap was wrong - it was one shot to low. Should i have left it or revised it? Its been a week since my last h/c revision and i had double checked it on golfnet the night before.

If it was lower than it should have been on the screen then you're fine to change it for an away competition because all you're doing is playing off your correct handicap.

The OP is wondering about bumping up his playing handicap but it's one of those things that you have to wait sometimes for those .1's from away competitions to come through and it can be a pain when you're x.4 because it depends on how quickly the away score is uploaded... when it is then downloaded by your home club and then uploaded/processed again to golfnet etc.

its was lower on the screen than it sould have been therefore giving me one less shot. (i.e screen said 22 and golfnet says 23)

When you sign in for an away comp, you are given the option to accept or change your handicap. In your case, you should change it from 22 to 23, and then hit accept.

A quick way of checking your handicap, and when it was last updated is to text your GUI number to 086-383 2600. This is an automated system which will text you back your exact handicap, and the time it was last updated.

This question has probably been asked over and over but if you go from .4 to .5 is it rounded up automatically or is it end of the month?

Got another .1 yesterday which will leave me at 3.5 so very close to going back out to Junior Scratch Cups

    cheers for that.

Nowadays it's rounded up immediately that the competition has closed, assuming it was a home competition. The delay is just for away competitions.

Automatically rounded up. As soon as your .1 is registered with golfnet, you will move form 3 to 4.

Golfnet is a mirror image of your home club computer and will obviously indicate your current handicap.
Away scores sit in the 'away' section of the Golfnet page until your home computer downloads them.
However the Home computer must upload all scores - away and home - to Golfnet for the correct handicap to appear on golfnet.
