Hi , Am considering buying one of the above. I have driven both and while I like the tdci on the Mondeo , I found the lx spec and interior rather plain. I drove the Passat comfortline and was surprised at plush it was compared to the Mondeo, maybe I should have driven a better spec Mondeo. I found both to be a comfortable drive, which is very important as I do not like a low seat. What are the boardies recommendations or experiences of these diesels.:) I am buying 04/05 car.

If you are looking at a mondeo, it must be Zetec spec or higher imo. Id prefer the Passat myself (but thats purely aesthetic). The mondeo's have a few known issues when over 100k - dmf/clutch afair. The older shape passats (were they still the older model in 04/05) had the bulletproof 1.9 tdi VAG unit.

The DMF goes a lot sooner than that on many of them, 15K on the Mondeo I had in 2005.
