I want to make a few mixes on my laptop, mainly for myself for fun or if they turn out ok, play them at parties or whatever. Can anyone recommend some software to do this? Preferably free software and will I need to get an external controller. Been messing with demo version of traktor but it only lasts 30 mins and its pricey to buy.

Renoise, Fruity Loops or Virtual DJ.

Mixx is a good free software, get that, see if you like it, and then save up for Traktor. Best way to go about it.

A controller is the best option, using a laptop to mix has very limited controls and I find it's not as fun using a touch pad. If you buy a controller, you get free software with it but it's usually limited, though you get the option to buy the full software like VirtualDJ or Traktor for half price.
