Hey, i've a car, a '99 hyundai accent 1,3l which i share with my younger brother. I now have access to a 1.8 mondeo, which i wanna drive without him using it. so i was wondering if it was possible for my father to get insured on my hyundai with my brother as a named driver. Even though the hyudai is registered under my name.
Another issue is that my dad already has his own car, and his own insurance policy, can he take out 2 policies? And can he take 1 out on a car he doesn't own, but has permission to use?

I think you're father would have to be the reg'd owner to get insurance on the hyundai and add your brother as a named driver. He should have no problem taking out a 2nd policy though.

Even if your father has no insurable interest in the car, it's possible that they might allow him to take out a policy - but it sounds like he won't be the primary driver, and they will probably know what's really going on. Your brother should just bite the bullet and start his own policy.

Yeah, i'd have it that way in an ideal world, but he's just fresh out of school, no job and can't sign on the dole for 3 months cause he's just done his leaving cert.

What is actually all this "primary driver" thing about. I know most insurance companies ask about it, but does every car has to have primary driver?

F.E. me and my wife have to cars. One is registered on my name, other is registered on my wife's name. But there isn't a question which car is whose?
We both drive both of the cars. Some days I take one car, and some days I take the other one.
So question "who is the main driver of the vehicle" is pretty much impossible to answer, as we both drive each of the cars about the same often.

I think there's a bit of a difference between your scenario, and a father getting a policy on a second car that he doesn't own, with a young male as a named driver. Cynical people might think that the young male will actually be the main driver and is trying to pull a fast one with the insurance.

They'd be correct in this scenario :) I just wanna get him off my policy so i can swap to the mondeo. (without screwing him over)
