Current tyres have a thread depth of 2.4 -2.7mm.

Legal is 1.6mm. Going to be doing a lot of driving over the next few weeks around 1500km.

Should I get new tyres? and if so what is a good brand?

What is the thread depth of new tyres?

    thanks for any help

the tread on new tyres is around 8mm. those tyres will not be to 1.6mm in 1500km. however if you feel uncomfortable with the current level of grip then change them. you do not have to wear them down to the minimum.

Not everyone is an English teacher.

He also asked would his current tyres wear down to 1.6mm, not new ones.

OP, if you can, I'd buy the new tyres anyway and take it handy because the 'gloss' on the new tyres will still be there.

Doubt it'd wear down anyway, I'm just back from a 1350km drive and my tyres are hardly different.
