Need a miricle to find Motivation

Hi

All my life I have put on and lost weight every so often. I have usually been able, eventually to get back on track and lose weight when necessary. However for the past year and half I just can't seem to keep up any diet or fittness programme. I have to admit that my life is not how I'd like it with regards to finances, where I live etc but there is nothing I can change about that right now. I do not suffer depresson so don't need medication but my moods are very low at times and I think that is part of the reason I end up pigging out or not doing my exercise.

At the same time as I'm writing this post, I know I need to get off my big f/a and get on with it. I have about 5 stone to lose and desperately need to do it for my health and sanity.

I guess what I'm asking is for advice from anyone who was perhaps in a similar rut, who found a way forward. Anything remotely inspirational. A new idea/diet/way of exercising. I can't join a club or anything like weightwatchers due to lack of finances etc. Perhaps I am asking for a miricle but if I don't ask I won't get and I just can't do it on my own anymore. Thanks

If money is an issue I'd suggest two things:

1) Have a look at crossfit.com You can do it for free and it is directed and excellent (IMO).
2) There is a "home workout" thread in the fitness forum. Also definitely worth looking at.

I'd suggest crossfit though. It *tells* you what to do. Read about it first (and today) but start doing it TOMORROW. You're not expected to do the full workouts at the start so don't kill yourself trying to.

For proper nutrition, read the stickies here and in the fitness forum.

Good luck.

as in this?

Gerson Therapy

Gerson's therapy required the patient to consume a raw plant based diet and to drink an 8-ounce glass of fresh organic juices every waking hour. Coffee and castor oil enemas were among several types of prescribed enemas, and some patients were given hydrogen peroxide orally and rectally. Rectal ozone was also applied. Dietary supplements include vitamin C and iodine. The diet prohibited the drinking of water and consumption of berries and nuts, as well as use of aluminium vessels or utensils.[5]
Initially, patients were required to drink several glasses of raw calf liver extract daily. Following an outbreak of Campylobacter infection linked to the Gerson clinic's extract, which sickened and killed several of the clinic's patients,[6] carrot juice was substituted.
Animal products and fats and oils were excluded (except for the raw calf liver extract and flax-seed oil), as were supposed sources of toxicity, including tobacco, salt, alcohol, fluorides, pesticides, food additives, and pharmaceuticals. Foods were to be fresh, organically grown and unprocessed. The therapy claimed to reverse any ill effects of exposure to environmental toxins over the course of 6–18 months, and Gerson believed it would be effective against most chronic diseases including tuberculosis, fibromyalgia, most forms of advanced cancer, arthritis (both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis), and diabetes.
Gerson's claims of success attracted some high-profile patients, as well as other alternative medicine practitioners. Gerson's daughter, Charlotte Gerson, continued to promote the therapy, founding the "Gerson Institute" in 1977.

Hi guys, gerson diet sounds just the ticket but for now I think I'll take Khannie's good advice. Thanks for replying Khannie, I will keep you posted on how I get on.

Hi ULStudent

Just being sarcastic. No intention of trying the gerson diet. If I did I would more than likely lose a lot of weight but whats the point in being a skinny dead skelton!

CrackerJack, when people start off on an exercise routine they are often full of enthusiasm but after a while that inital buzz wears off and it becomes harder to stay focused on what you want. I believe that a big part of this is because we don't set goals to achieve. Written goals (possibly 6 or even 20) for short, medium and long term objectives. These should be as measurable and achieveable as possible (i.e. achieveing a certian weight by a certina date.() fitting into a particular piece ofclothing. Eating healthy foods. Eating at certian times, drinking water etc.

When I first started a major lifestyle change I skipped this chapter and after 6 months was left wondering what it was I was trying to achieve. After setting goals and I am focussed and determined every day.

You might be thinking well my goal is to lose weight (isn't everyone's?) But that is such a ill defined goal it's a bit like saying lets go on holiday by simply driving east. Yes you will get somewhere but it's going to take so much more time. Also, writting it down makes it real. Read up on this and try it.

Hi Lantus

I agree with the goal setting. Having said that I didn't set goals and I am already finding every day a struggle. I like the clothes goal idea. I have so many fantastic clothes from when I was much smaller and I'd love to get back into them. Lots of very stressful things are happening almost weekly which I am finding is throwing me into a depressive mood and hence out come the comfort foods. Anyway thanks for your advice. I will take it on board.

Finally someone I can relate to, Im 21 nd have suffered from anoerxia n da past, I have always been very body concious and still am. After many years trying to overcome this disorder, I thought I had finally won and all my issues had been dealt with and I was starting to cope again. However I fell pregnant and a year on I have a beautiful son but also this horrible bulge. All my life I have been a size 10 to 12 and I am now at my biggest I have ever been at size 14. I have tried weight watchers but like you I financely cannot afford to keep it up. I have tried everything you can think of and recently I have even started looking into diet pills and everyting but I no myself its not worth, It just seems like Im goin from one extreme to another and I dont no wat to do either! So If you have any good tips be sure to share them.
