So a mate of mine has had UPC for years using just the standard Digital TV serice.A few months ago I persuaded him to move to the Phone and Broadband package too, then today we're chatting and UPC comes up and he tells me he's paying €120 a month for....
Digital Max with no add on's 2 Ancient Digital Boxes (the really old silver ones) 1 Multi Room Viewing 15mb Broadband Phone

I did the same service on the UPC site only with two Digital+ boxes and its still coming up CHEAPER.

Am I the only one that thinks he's being ripped?

    from memory
    digital max is 32.00
    multi room 8.50
    broadband 32.00
    phone 6.00

    that comes to 78.50

either he must be make lots and lots of phone calls or there is so mistake in the billing

    i have

    digital max
    1 multi room
    hd+
    15mb broadband
    and phone

and my bill varies from 90-106 a month

I have digital max, HD, Sky Sports and 15MB broadband and my bill is somewhere in or around €100. Considering €30 of that is Sky Sports then Id say your mate is being taken for a ride, either that or he rakes up some huge phone bills.

I just noticed on their website that UPC took sky sports out of all their deals:
    http://www.upc.ie/deals/
When did that happen, they use to have fairly good all in one deals going?

Seems that if you are a new customer, you get Sky Sports free for 2 months

Sky are putting their prices up so are charging more to UPC, so in turn UPC will have to put their prices up.

New customers definitely get a better deal than old. I’ve the really old box too and tried to be put on one of the packages but was told they’re for new customers only.

If I signed up as a new customer (after introductory offers ran out), I’d be getting the Digital plus service and saving €2.50 a month

If I “upgraded” it’d cost me an extra fiver.

I know it’s only €7.50 a month but it still annoys me.

I upgraded to a HD Box and got 6 months free Digital plus :) I see your point though but I don't mind too much because when I signed up first, I hardly paid anything for my first year.

A lot of companies are the same. Ive lost count of the amount of time Ive seen these great offers on phones for new customers only to be told that they dont apply to existing customers. I can appreciate that its important to get the new customers, but surely its more important to keep hold of the ones who pay you a grand or more a year?

What annoys me is when you ask about Sky Sports HD, you get told it is coming, I have lost count how many times I have heard that. It is the one HD package, I want more than anything else..

I was told initially it would be here by the start of the PL season, then it was November, yet all the while from reading other sources it looks like they are never going to release Sports or Movies in HD to other companies as they know its the one trump card they hold over everyone else. Needless to say I stopped holding my breath a long time ago...

I don't mind special offers for new customers (Free sports for a year, free installation, free movies etc etc) but from a business point of view I think all main packages should be the same for all customers.

I think its just that as a customer who has probably given the company many thousands over the years and shown loyalty to the company it is very annoying when you are paying for something that Johnny-Come-Lately is able to get for free!

Moved house a few weeks ago, we had the sky via satelite, got upc premier package installed, absolutely gutted, no movies or sports in HD. Rip off!!

Living in an apartment (can't put up a dish) so I presume there is no other solution to getting sky sports in HD???

how is not having sky movies or sports a rip off? i dont understand
the channels you get are shown on their website so you would have known they didnt have them before ordering

i'm getting tired of say this but people keep giving me reason to

the only reason that upc dont have the hd channels is because sky wont share them

Im rather miffed about having to watch Sky Sports in barely YouTube low def quality on my TV as well, but at least I thought to check with UPC what channels I got and didnt get when I signed up...

Its not a rip off either; UPC arent fantastic for TV but theyre not expensive either; you (rightly) pay less than you would for Sky. As far as I know the HD pack on Sky is 3 times more expensive than with UPC.

The only way to get Sky Sports and Movies in HD is thru Sky. If you live in an apartment then youll have to take a punt on putting up a dish and hoping noone says anything. From what I can see of my area (Naas) almost every apartment building has dishes on them, so Id imagine the management companies are learning to keep their mouths shut on the issue for fear of losing customers. Its always going to be a gamble however, and the penalties may not be worth it depending on your lease agreement or the rules of your building.

If you are sick and tired you probably should call a doctor!

Not at any stage was I told that they did not have sky sports or sky movies in HD. Sky package is far superior and easier to navigate, unfortunatley can't avail of it!

Did you ask what you were getting before you bought? Hard to have sympathy if you didnt; no company is going to rattle off a list of services they dont offer when they are trying to sell something, its up to you to ask the questions to find out...

You are not getting this. Sky will not give UPC the HD so how is it their fault?

Whats he not getting? He said its crap not having Sky Sports in HD, which it is.

I dont get this overly defensive thing some people have on here regarding UPC. They dont have certain services which Sky have, end of story. I dont care why they dont have them, and quite frankly Sky are well within their rights to withold some of their services in order to give them an edge over competitors, the bottom line as I said above is that if I want to watch football or cricket in HD then Sky can offer that and UPC cant. If those services are important to people then to them Sky are better than UPC. End of story. Many others may have other priorities and their viewpoint may be different, and thats cool too.

We were just stating that it is not UPC's fault that they can't provide "Sky" services in HD and that the fault is not at UPC's door. Yes that may be the case but I have also noticed that Sky are quite expensive for what they do offer.

Yes, I am a customer of UPC but a lot of people say UPC are putting the prices up for Sky Sports but they neglect to mention why they are putting the prices up (because it is now costing them more to give us those services because of the prices Sky are putting up!)
