What determines 'The Thread of the Day'??

I read the 'Thread of the Day' most days, and I'm wondering who picks it? What decides it? Who decides it? Today's one isn't necessarily funny or ironic...but thats just my opinion...are there guidelines on what determines the 'thread of the day'.....and has your thread ever been picked?

If a thread contains a heated discussion on sandwiches or any sort of sandwich related food item then it automatically becomes thread of the day as far as im concerned.

I just think it's weird.

Like when I found it here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=67233407#post67233407 (thats todays thread of the day), I didn't really think it was the best thread if the day....U know?

Even that's weird....

I think the thread of the day, should ACTUALLY be the thread of the day....like the funniest thread of the day, the saddest thread of the day...the weirdest thread of the day etc etc..............
