    Hey all.

Im traveling to Vietnam and im gonna try to do Hanoi - Saigon in a couple of weeks.
Has anyone had any experience of traveling within the country? Trains, Buses ect...
What do you think would be the best way for me to go?

    Thanks for any help.

Trains are comfortable, reliable and good value for money. I'd use these for travel between main cities and buses for any shorter side trips. Overall Vietnam is pretty easy country to get around.

went buses all the way opposite to your plan, Ho chi minh- Da Lat- Nha Trang -Hue- Hanoi- Halong Bay. No hassle, buses going constantly, a bit cramped but stop a lot and good craic, internal flights cheap enough too.

If your any more than 5ft 7" dont expect to get a good nights sleep on the sleepers buses! Pure torture in my opinion. My girlfriend slept like a baby though! Sinh Cafe are the main bus provider. When you arrive find their offices and you can book a hop on hop off bus ticket for all of Vietnam. Make sure you buy your ticket for an official Sinh Cafe office. There are hundreds that pretend to be and charge a lot more for the tickets. Taxi drivers in Saigon will screw ya. Simple fact. Know your route before you hop in. We ended up paying €10 for a fifteen minute journey that was actually only a minute walk away. He drove around a few blocks until he had made his weekly wage and then dropped us off! I thought about wishing him death but I opted for wishing that his car broke down for good.

Stick to the reputable companies and they won't scam you... Mai Linh and VinaSun the main two, a few other ones are OK too, Saigon Toursit, VinaTaxi, Happy Taxi... but stay away from the ones you haven't heard of especially the green and white ones pretending to be Vinasun. Buses in Vietnam are good with A/C and fairly comfortable, but mind that your bag doesn't get stolen if you go to sleep.

Take the train as much as you can,the buses can be fairly full on.
I remember a few journeys where the driver bullied and beeped everything on the road the whole 12hours and he must have had a boat fog horn on the bus as it just ripped through you when you tried to napp.
We soon copped on to purchasing ear plugs on every journey, the train takes you on some very nice scenic routes and lets you stretch the legs a bit.
