Insuring Irish Car in Scotland

Hi everyone, just wondering about insuring my car in Scotland. Im going to be working and living there until at least the end of June. I have been looking online and am getting ridiculous quotes of a grand and a half or more. My dad said he asked a few people and it has to be insured over there, i was moreso thinking of just saying to my current insurance people that i might be over there the odd time, heaven forbid then if something happened it would be 'just one of the times i was there'. Is that in anyway doable? Or if not does anyone know any cheap car insurance companies over there? Iv tried all the major ones and comparison sites! Thanks :)

if you have an expensive accident over there the insurance will investigate and will leave you out of pocket , insurance companies are doing all they can not to have to pay claims , they will check with employers aswell

ok so the irish insurance is really not an option then, thanks for the reply! Does anyone know where i can get a more reasonable insurance? Im a 23yr old female, have my full drivers licence for nearly 2 years.

So you'll be there for almost a year?

I'd be thinking in terms of either selling your current car and buying one there or reregistering your current car for the year.

Thanks for the advice, i've heard that registering a car over there costs quite a lot so i dont know if it would be cheaper in the long run, as for selling the car its not really an option as i need the car to move all my stuff over, and my work starts almost immediately. I really should have thought of all this before now!

    Sell your own car
go over buy a nice car for yourself and bring it home after 12 months duty free. ;)

Yeah ill have a look into it anan thanks! And id love to buy a car over there but me finances can barely keep my little fiesta going here so selling that wouldn't get me much towards any kind of car over there :( the search continues! :)
