Hey everyone.... just wondering how you are all getting on with our new sexy iphone 4 .. so feel free to write a review on the iphone 4.. including the signal loss problem and how you are getting on with that... and of course all the rest of the good stuff.

... and do you think it was worth the money you paid for it?

I'd be very interested in what people think of the Iphone 4 vs. the 3G and 3GS.

I didn't get a chance to pick a 4 up on Friday so I'd love to know if people think the 4 was worth the money.

My 3g has gone down the drain since I upgraded to the OS4 so I'll probably end up changing!

Was in Harvery Norman's just checking audio docks for my iphone when the canon assistance came over as he had seen me checking the reviews on the iphone...he has the 3g model and he was very impressed with the improvements particularly the speed..in comparison to unlock his and swipe the screens was taking about 3-4 secs in comparison to about 1 sec on the iphone 4...

re this, go into settings>general>home button> spotlight search and uncheck everything, then do 2 full hard reboots (hold down power and home key until you see apple symbol).

Long thread on apple support forums about this, the above procedure made the 3G useable for me again with os4.

Sounds like he had the iOS4 on 3G problem. My 3G is nowhere near that slow.

Upgraded from 3G on Friday and it's a relief to have a a version that's fast and with a few new features. The Mrs has a 3GS and it's not a huge jump from that. The screen is great, very clear and easier to read on. All the OS4 features are good too. Well worth moving from 3G but if I had a 3GS I'd stick with it until the next version. I didn't update my 3G to OS4 but I still had to switch off lots of settings in order to stop the battery draining and the system crashing.

    No problems with the signal.

I got my 4 yesterday . So far I've only noticed a few bad points.

    - the death grip is definitely there.
    - the sensor which turns the screen off when you're on a call isn't as sensitive as the one on the 3Gs , I keep pressing buttons when I have the phone against my ear. ( maybe it's just my big ears)
    - battery life actually seems worse but it might be too soon to tell for definite.

    On the plus side

    - the screen is incredible , it's like going from your old bulky tv to a new high def led screen.
    - camera quality is noticeably much better and so is the video .
    - overall feel of it is just a much higher quality than the 3GS

That said the phone doesn't really feel that much different to the 3 gs as they are both running os4.I didn't have to pay to get this as I swapped to three, but if I had stayed with o2 and paid €400 for it I would be feeling like I wasted my money

Ok I bought both a 3GS and an iPhone 4 last Friday and I haven't had an iPhone in a long long time (had first version for a few weeks before it fell in a puddle and died) n
Here is what I thought of both.

    iPhone 3GS:
Great phone, does everything you would expect a phone to do and does it quickly doesn't freeze up at the thought of multitasking

    iPhone 4
I must admit this phone blew me away with the screen and camera quality I really love that screen! Otherwise I really can't see a whole lot of difference between the 4 and the 3GS! I've used both side by side and couldn't find a problem with signal no matter how I held it.

To summarise the whole thing :

If screen and camera quality are important to you ( which may I add are more than adequate on the 3GS ) then go for the 4 if not then avail of the excellent bargains to be for on the iPhone 3GS. I bought a 32gig 3GS for 200 notes last Friday and this is the one I'm using myself and gave the OH the 4.

In my opinion the 4 is only a 3GS with better cameras, flash and screen.

I agree. I went into an O2 shop just last week in the UK and they were once again out of stock for the iPhone 4. ( you can check that online - they have a tracker - on any given day only 5 or 6 English O2 stores have stock in the morning or at close)

He said I could wait until 3 pm but I couldn't book ahead I needed a device with iOS 4 for work so I got the 3GS. Which is night and day compared to my first gen. I have used 4 at work and I see little difference in speed.

This was a form factor change. The next change will be a speed change. Don't be surprised if they issue a 4s addition sometime, maybe before June. Apples new API in iOS 4 forces people to use a new threading mechanism (GCD) which handles the complexities of threading. With one core that is not so important, so expect multi-core phones, I don't see the form factor changing.

    Hi Guys,
I bought the first version of the iPhone over a year ago from O2. At that time they were, as you know, the only ones selling it. Last Friday I bought the new iPhone 4, but changed back to Vodafone, the charge for the phone was €270. I had been ten years with Vodafone previous to this! I am very pleased with the 4, very fast, easy to get around, bright screen, great sound, but will invest in a case, as the glass sides can be very slippy!
Can anyone help me on this? when I try to send a photo from the phone, I can only send it to an e-mail address. It fails when sent MMS. Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are missing one important thing.

The iP4 is s lot more future proof (if there is such a thing with phones :p)

With the greater resolution, double the ram (512MB) and the more efficient and faster processor, better camera with flash, infinitely better screen.

It will last updates much better than the 3GS.

that's why I went for the iP4 rather than the 3GS.

Well with its 512MB of ram More modern processor and high resolution screan it will weather future updates well.

    Unlike my old 3G.

People are reporting already that the 3Gs can suffer from slow downs with iOS4.

But surely in the future more hardware intensive applications will render the iphone 4 terrible. Its future proof for the next year or two just like the 3g was but after that. Not a hope. Its the same with every phone.

The only true future proof electronic product nowadays is the desktop PC and thats not even fully future proof

absolutely, it's one year newer so is 'future proofed' for one year only.

However muffin is right in one sense, imo you would have to be nuts to buy an 8GB 3GS which will be likely be obsolete within a year to make a small saving or get it a few weeks quicker.

    This is it exactly.

Plus the iP4 has an improved wifi chip with wireless N and a much better GPS chip.

True the 8G is not useful. I got the 16G 3GS which is still in stock. Noticing no slowdowns with iOS4.

What will happen next is this: the iPhone 4 form factor - with possible a fix for the antenna will stay for about 2 years. The next phone will be a big improvement speedwise with multi core chips. The 3GS will continue to sell for 2 years, as it is is a very adequate phone, reducing in price so it will be free on many plans, but it may bump to 16G entry, if the iPhone 4S entry is 32G ( or 24G).

They will never have the same hard drive space for the 3GS and the iPhone 4 series as one might cannibalise the other. However I think the 3GS will be a very good seller for them.

As for future speed improvements, I believe that iOS 5 will be faster, not slower on all machines that can handle it.
