    May sound a bit clueless...
What exactly does it do, and how often does one need to do it?
I've never had it done on any of my cars, but speaking to someone yesterday they said it's vital to have it done regularly.

    they're talking crap.
it's only neccesary to do if your aircon isn't as cold as it used to be/should be

yeah, AC gas lasts years and years, I got my done lately. Its a simple job with the right tools.

on the other hand I seem to have developed a throat infection lately, bit of a coincidence. I think the AC is pumping gadzillions of microphobes into my lungs..:rolleyes:

Yeah as said it would last for years.

Maybe they meant to say to use it regualrly, which is true, even when not hot, it should run for a few minutes 2-3 times a month.

Simply because if the small engine that is used with the AC does not run, the internal components do not get lubricated, and like any other engine, this is not good, it is supposed to run, otherwise the components might grip.
