iPhone 4 on three, refused a Pay Monthly account

Has this happened to anyone else?

I pre registered with three for the iPhone 4. They sent me the pre-release mail's. Was unsure whether I wanted to jump just yet. Got a call Friday lunchtime from them, as I had registered interest they were offering me a phone if I signed up.

Fine says I, gave all the details etc. Lady confirmed I'd have the phone on Tuesday or Wednesday next. I asked if I needed to sign anything or other paperwork was required, no she says. I got an order number, and was e-mailled a confirmation.

Happy days, new iPhone 4 on the way.

I am on 3 pre pay at the moment and happy with the service, so eagerly waiting next week's delivery.

Checked my mail this morning and had a mail from 3 looking for proof of ID (passport and a bill). It was sent yesterday about 30
mins after the order was placed.

So I scanned the necessary docs and mailled them to customer support as per the instructions in the mail.

About 30 mins layer got a mail from 3 saying my request for a pay monthly account has been declined.

What the hell? Lady who took my order confirmed with me that I'm a homeowner over 10 years, employed in same company for over 4 years.

I've not got a bad credit rating, and have a good job, so could not have failled a credit check.

Replied to the sending address and cc'd customer service asking for a reason for the refusal.

Really annoyed. Could it just be that they are out of handsets, and using credit excuses to deny people?

Their refusal mail said I could appeal the decision to their 'credit referral team'. Implyng that I have a bad credit history, which I don't.

So, has this happens to anyone else this weekend, or previously with 3?

Happened to me as well. Again, excellent credit history. Not only that, but I was a 3 bill pay customer in the past and have also been a mobile broadband customer for several years. Could have been because I used a business credit card to order, but 3 won't give a reason so I got my iPhone 4 from Vodafone instead. I also cancelled my mobile broadband contracts with them, and gave the reason: because you won't sell me an iPhone 4, it seems like you don't want me as a customer anymore.

I figure I shouldn't need to jump through hoops to give them my cash.

check the main 3 thread. they did this to me because i was using a business laser card and it couldn't be used to buy the phone for a personal a/c even though it's a business phone for me. think it happend to a few others on the thread too.

if you tried to pay for it with a business card then i think that's the problem. i would suggest you go into a shop if you can and deal with it directly with someone. i couldn't fault any of the staff i dealt with and they had several suggestions for workarounds to the system.

    hope this helps.

Paid by visa, but it's a personal card.
My bank account is a joint account with her indoors, but either of us can set up a Direct Debit, we've done this before. I checked with with the sales lady, and she said that was OK.

I might try to call into a shop tomorrow or monday if I can get away from the family activities for the weekend.

Called into a store today, who in turn called someone in help desk land.

Seems as if they wanted to contact me on Saturday to get additional info, and failled, so they cancelled the order due to insufficient info

had no missed calls on Saturday...

they had no problems ringing me to sell the damn thing.

    Sigh

Ordered online on launch night. New customer moving from O2. Noticed order status hadn't moved on from "Order Received" and hadn't received an "Order Accepted" email while otehrs were getting deliveries on Saturday. Emailed them, rang their call centre, got passed from pillar to post. Eventually they ring back today and tell me I need to pay a 150 euro deposit to proceed with the order. WTF? I just paid for the phone by credit card and have committed to direct debit for hundreds more. What the hell is a deposit for? Nowhere is this mentioned on their priceplans. When I ask why, I get "er, um, its company policy". Cancelled the order there and then. Will stick with O2 - it'll take a couple more weeks no doubt to get the phone and cost fifty quid more but who needs that sort of incompetence. What a bunch of muppets!

Security deposits are standard practise for all networks. They credit score your application and your total score results in: accepted, accepted with security deposit or declined. Every network does it.

I also had this problem, ordered one for the OH no problem she got a call within 20 mins to confirm everything. She got the phone sat morning, my order hadn't moved on though, I phoned up and the said I needed to pay €200 deposit as they can't have 2 contracts from one bank account without the deposit. Cancelled it there and then, got some rubbish about the "system" not letting them do it. Still want to stick with 3 so I'm gonna call in to their store tomorrow. Anyone know if there's stock in the 3 store, in Cork?

How is it on that note that even though I've a clean credit record (checked it with the ICB myself) that Vodafone demanded 50 euros off me? Do they just make it up as they go along or is there a 'right answer' to the personal questions?

What use are UK carriers to Irish consumers?! (It would seem the post I was referring to has been deleted...)

Also Three and the like run their own Credit Score check, it's not actually based on the ICB as far as I'm aware, it's a basic "risk" model that they themselves come up with or worse, outsource to some company that privide risk models that then process your details against them. Three's does seem to be rather ridiculous in it's conclusions sometimes.
I had a Direct Debit set up with them for my previous plan (Best Of Both) before I ordered the iPhone 4, yet they still wanted a €150 deposit off me when I ordered the iPhone. My sister was refused an iPhone 4 off them recently for no real reason and even the girl in the shop she dealt with said that she was about the 15th person that day that was declined...

It seems to be random whether you succeed, which is shocking.
