...How much does it cost to tether using the iPhone WITHOUT a Tethering plan?

I used my iPhone 4 for about 2 hours for just browsing purposes. Wondering how much it cost me....

    Thanks :)

With 3 it's included in your bundle, with Vodafone €9.99 for 1GB or €19.90 for a whole 10GB. Not sure about O2....

I'm with Vodafone and there is no extra charge for tethering. My plan costs €8.20 for 1Gb including tethering.

What you are looking at must be from a different plan to what I all on, all I can confirm is that I don't pay anything for tethering and I am with vodafone

    Use iPhone as a modem
Did you know you can use your iPhone just like a mobile
broadband modem? Just add a tethering bundle
to your plan to get mobile broadband on
your computer using your iPhone. Just
    €9.99 for 1GB or €19.90 for a whole 10GB.

but you are paying extra for 1GB of data? i.e you are paying your €8.20 on top of your plan cost. (which I'm guessing is before vat?)

With the other networks the data is included in your basic plan and you can use it for tethering also.

Yes, I am paying €8.20 plus VAT for the 1Gb of data wether it is downloaded directly to the phone or the laptop through tethering. When I first started tethering with my iPhone I called VF customer service to make sure I would not be charged.

My wife has a similar setup, she pays 30 per month for her normal tariff and then 10 (Inc vat) for 1gb data. Neither plans are iPhone specific

We both have SIM free phones so that we would not be tied down to VF.

However, most of our friends and family are also on VF and all our calls to other VF customers are free. This is worth a lot of money. On top of that they give you 600 web texts that can be used on laptop or through JellySMS to national and international numbers - my wife is from Norway and this makes a huge saving on texting

So if you take in all the free calls and txt messages on top of the normal minutes and texts included in the plan then it is nit a bad deal

    Fair enough i suppose.

But not all people are in your situation and judging by there plans i have no idea why other people would sign up to them in the first place.

I agree. Some of my friends were early iPhone adaptors I could not understand why they would pay so much to O2 and get very little in return while still being tied into an 18 month noose around their neck.

The beauty of being SIM free is that we can move provider when ever we feel like it

Are you 100% sure? I've read in a booklet that you must buy tethering add on.

I'm on O2 by the way.

Im on the Advance 150 with 2GB Data so I can eat into that for my tethering?

if you got the new plan with iphone 4 then yes..

    see here:
    http://www.o2online.ie/shop/phones/iphone/iphone-4/#tab_iphone_bottom_tabs_1_1
and select lowest monthly charge tab.

"Included internet browsing and broadband = 2 GB"

    the broadband is your tethering.

I was well pleased with that. It was a rip-off to charge extra for tethering

Does the 2gb O2 Tethering include iPad? Or is that still extra?

Tethering IS NOT included in the Vodafone iPhone price plans!

The other poster has a 1GB addon (which covers many APNs, as well as the one used for tethering) which is sold by VF, amongst other names, as a tethering add-on.

The standard Vodafone PCA+ price plans (one of which must be chosen if buying a billpay iPhone upgrade from VF) only permit access to the Live APN. The Office APN is used for tethering, and they have been charging for this out of bundle since February.

    The rates are as follows:
Up to 512 KB €0.02 per KB
Beyond 512 KB €0.00121 per KB*

So use tethering out of bundle on Vodafone and be ready to set up an overdraft for the direct debit
