    Rovi

The Mod should post this and Deer application permit on a thread so people can access it easily.

Is that an inclusive list of all state lakes?

And can someone clarify what are state rivers?

The country is littered with waterways.
Is a permit required for duck only or are you allowed to shoot geese if on affore mentioned lakes?

    No answers; just more questions.

If you have permission of the land owner can you shoot the shore?
Is the permit from shooting from the shore only?
if you are in a row boat do you need the permit (i assume yes)

Is there any on boards.ie fully of-fay with all the rules and regulations in shooting geese, and ducks and other water fowl in season on inland waterways?

You need to put down what areas you want to shoot.
You need to state what species. In my case i just put down 'ducks and geese' and got it.
If you have permission of the land owner can you shoot the shore?

    Yes, unless its state owned.

    Yes, if its state owned

The fore shore licence is for 5 years. Unless you get it through the gun club to which its only one year

I think I will apply for one, better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Comical that the state seems to own lough derg and not lough ree??

Whats your adress? i'll phone them and send them over for ya! NEE-NAW-NEE-NAW!!!!:p

Not sure on the rivers, always thought that you can shoot any pond or river once its not a sanctuary!
We have signs up on our duck release pond because if we hadn't then anyone could go in and shoot it, which happened the first year we released duck on a small lake! Some gob**** from a neighbouring club shot 11 mallard in an evening! Could do nothing about it except put up signs!
Hopefully there's someone on here that can give us some good information on the subject!!

Lads complete novice to duck shooting but seeing as myself and the misses are avid duck eaters is it possible for me to apply for permission on Derravaragh Westmeath Ennel Westmeath as both are very close to me?

I take it since there both state owned land (Foreshore) I dont have to ask private permission only off the state?
    Any Info appreciated!

Ye no point putting the Geese on the list!
The season will be well over before a goose is seen in the midlands!!:(

I printed off the list 10 mins ago and Lough Ree is on it. Under County Roscommon. Anybody know what the deal is with shooting the state lakes. Do local gun clubs have any hold over the foreshore?

I am currently in a gun club and to be honest i have enough of the political messing that goes on so i am heading strictly for ducks this year and dont want meet any angry gun club members on the fore shore ffn and blindin at me because i am on "their land". any advice for certain areas would be great. I was thinking of trying Gowna and Ree.

I may be corrected on this, but, as far as I know once you have your foreshore license and you can get to that same foreshore in a proper manner then you can shoot freely on it. The foreshore is State land, so no GC can lay claim to it.

    cheers for that.

You won't get any agro from club members on the big lakes once you stick to shooting ducks!
There has been a lot of problems with lads shooting pheasants on the islands on Ree!
There are birds released every year on a couple of islands and there easy targets for idiots when there coming off roost at dawn!

There's a bit of trouble going on the last few years on the Shannon near Athlone!
Not by a gun club, but by a farmer who has put up NO SHOOTING signs along the river for about a half a mile or so! (Only owns a small portion of the land involved)
He also gets up at dawn on the first of september to stop lads from shooting in the area!

I know a few of the farmers that own land on the shores of Lough ree, and even some of the islands.

They are plagued with people using their farms as a launching point for a boat or a picnic, the shore may be the state, past the high water mark is theres.

A little respect goes a long way, I have permission on some of those farms, many others don't as they were dropping shells everywhere, leaving gates open etc, damaging fencing.

So in sumation, shooting on someone elses private lands is a precious gift we all must respect, or everyone that shoots will lose out:cool:

If they are as fast as some permits ~ 10 days turn around,
Make sure you have them in for Monday!

Seem to get a better turnaround that way
