Are these bad for you? Or is it just the sodium content that is unhealthy? Can anyone enlighten me?

They're pretty much junk. Lots of modified starch to make the whole thing stick together in that creamy texture, and then lots of salt and flavour to make it not taste like wallpaper paste.

If you are addicted and want to treat them as a guilty pleasure, fine, but if you are looking for good nutrition, there are much better choices available in tinned soup.

Make your own soup and add cream. Much tastier and you know what has gone into it.

SOOO much tastier. I used to love those avonmore carton soups back when all I cared about food was the carb count. Started making my own soup and had a taste of the avonmore stuff recently, it now tastes like salty wallpaper paste in comparison!

    Pray, tell.

Can you share a basic recipe, and since it contains cream would it still be okay to eat everyday?

My favourite soup: Boil some brussel sprouts in real chicken stock, until they are softening. Then puree them in the blender. This gives a lovely creamy soup which is delicious on its own, and even better with some cream or blue cheese crumbles.

You can do the same with broccoli, caufllower, fennel, asparagus etc. Doesn't work with cabbage or spinach. Cauliflower cheese soup is great.

Even with a dollop of cream any homemade soup is still pretty low cal, plus a little dollop of cream of creme fraiche feels soo indulgent. :)

My fave soup is carrot and yellow pepper boiled in REAL chicken stock and blitzed. Top with creme fraiche, bacon bits and coriander. Bliss!

If you have no bones to make chicken soup, a sachet of miso soup makes a reasonable substitute. Or (don't laugh) a squirt of anchovy puree. Gives it a savory tang without being overpoweringly fishy.

I'm not a big soup person, love potato and leek soup and that's about it....the only reason I asked was because every so often I come across a recipe that calls for a condensed cream of mushroom (or whatever) soup.
