If you cant take normal stance, righthanded and have to play shot left handed. Is it ok to hit ball with the back of Iron, or do you have to rotate club and hit with face. thanks

I've seen and done exactly this(back of club), I've never been pulled on it tbh

Very bizarre answer. I hope you are only a casual or society and not a GUI golfer.

And btw, its OK to hit a ball with the back of the club. Though you can also flip one over if you choose.

You have given a bizarre answer yourself- what does it matter if the poster is a casual society or gui golfer. The same rules apply no matter the status of the player.

Quite a lot, and indeed they do.

But maybe I didnt post very clearly. Long day yesterday.

What struck me was the tone in the post that suggested as long as you arent pulled on it then its probably OK. It doesnt really matter whether you observe the rules or not in unofficial golf, but if playing with a GUI handicap, (maybe against me someday), I would expect a more responsible attitude to observing the rules. If you aren't sure, then ask or a least find out later - dont just keep doing something you arent sure about on the basis that no one has stopped you and told its wrong yet.

Some confusion might arise from the (rule) fact that your club can't have two striking faces (unless it's a putter). There's only meant to be one proper face on the club but you can by all means hit the ball with the back of the club when you may not have a better option.

The reason i ask is, i was having a chat with assitant pro in golf club and he informed you could not hit back of club. hence you always see pro's on the tv use club flipped over style. not sure he was right?

The rules regarding clubs mean that a clubhead can only have one striking face unless it's a putter and both faces are identical.
The rule regarding making a stroke at the ball mentions that you must strike the ball with the clubhead, doesn't mention the face.
I wouldn't regard hitting the ball with the back of the club as an unusual use but most thine I need to play the 'wrong' way I'd still use the face if the club.

yeah because it's easier than hitting the back of the club,i can hit it about 100 yards with my 7 iron turned over

Didn't Justin Rose do exactly this in the Irish Open two days ago? It could have been Molinari either. But he hit a backwards 4-iron left-handed (he was up against a tree, had no RH shot). Landed it on the green as well if I remember correctly.

Edit: Ooops, I've read the thread a little more closely now and he hit it with the club-face, not the back of the club so I'm unsure now.
