Which free bumper case are you getting for your shiny new iPhone 4? I'll probably go for the Apple bumper case.

good question, their case has poor reviews on some independent sites.
case mate "gelli" cases look good and also the "barely there" case look ok. good access to the buttons.
anyone out there using cases they would recommend ???

    The speck one definitely.

They are all terrible. The only reason to buy an iPhone is to put it on the table in the pub & the case hides anything that is good about it.

I asked three network today about how do I get my free case and they told me that Ireland is excluded from the offer..

Bumper and only because its free otherwise i wouldn't have a case... whats the point you buy a phone and then hide it sure you might as-well leave it in the box and carry that around.

Order the bumper via the app earlier today

I went for the Griffin Perferated Silicone one, because it looks closest to what I currently have, IE rubbery.

Agreed! I don't understand the use of cases either, but each to their own I guess.

    Bumper is awful.

    Pixelskin HD ftw.

Does anyone know if there is a case available that is slim enough to allow the phone to fit in an iPhone car kit cradle? I'm tired of removing my case every time I get in the car.

Haven't seen a zagg skin but they should be good for cradle. The is a thread on here with discount codes.

Zagg skins are the way to go if you want scratch protection but don't want a case. Those things are awesome, and I put one on pretty much anything that is an expensive gadget that I own. I'm waiting for my iPhone 4 one to arrive, that I got for a 50% discount.

    Free black bumper.

Going to get a custom case, the apple ones are fairly mediocre. Haven't decided which one yet, maybe an Element Case Vapor case or something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

Ordered the black Apple bumper. Anything else is too bulky and destroys the look of the phone imo.

If I'm getting something for free, I want to be as costly as possible. I went for the Griffin Edge, the carbon fibre look. I'm a sucker for CF. If I want a bumper, I'll get an el-cheapo one off ebay that'll do the job of the Apple one. I think the bumpers are far too overpriced for what you get.

    Bumper/case, is there a difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Yup, a bumper goes around the sides only. A case does the sides and back.

Cool, so a case does the same job as a bumper and then some?

Case = more bang for your (free) bucks!

I ordered the bumper cause it was free :-) I've no idea why ppl put screen covers on the screen, it takes so much away from the sensitivity of the screen.

Maybe it's different with this generation of phones, but there was no noticeble difference on the Tocco!

I was always able to tell the difference, it just didn't feel as smooth and the device was not as responsive.

I just ordered the Apple bumper case.

Anyone know how long they take to get delivered? (Apple app saying 3-5 weeks but I dont think it'll take that long).

Is there any way to order the case without having to wait for my iPhone 4 to arrive? I mean, I have to wait 3 and a half weeks for the iPhone to come, and then another 3-5 weeks after that for the case? Ridiculous. I have an iPod Touch, and downloaded the case program app from iTunes on my computer, but it won't actually put the app on my iPod Touch.

So I guess that means you're out of luck.

You think YOU have it bad? I'm waiting 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,622 ✭✭✭Kevin!

Ordered the Etch, will be waiting 6-8 weeks but it's much better than getting a bumper IMO although I will have to use something cheap-ish untill it arrives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,797 ✭✭✭scwazrh

I went for the Motif one. Read a few reviews that said that the cover is nice and bulky so is ideal if you drop your phone. I dropped my 3gs at least 2 or 3 times a week and dont think the 4 will be any different

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

I haate the idea of cases and never had one on my 3G. Opted for the bumper because it doesn't cover the back or front, looks very streamline and may take away the sharp feeling of the phone. Still think I prefer the old style.

ordered the incase snap clear, hard to know what is best but the options are pretty limited.

Was seriously looking a stealth armour side strip solution as a stock loooking solution but they appear not to work the way they promised:

I got the Vroom case from Case Mate, have to say i'm delighted with it and its just what I need especially with the amount of work I do outdoors. It looks well and feels nice on the phone too.

Going for the Griffin perf silicone black, due mid Sept and have a cheapo on the way for until then. Thinking a silicone case may be the most protective type.
Really like the design of new iPhone and am fairly careful but still managed to drop it last weekend. Mark on one corner and tiny (almost unoticeable) crack on corner of screen (below touchscreen), doesn't affect the phone but still a bit browned off. Dont mind forsaking the design with a case to preserve the phone though as I think I was lucky and while the screen may be said to be scratch proof I don't think it's shatter proof!!! No more chances...

Anyone recommend screen protectors? Will be getting one too, although I suppose it depends which case as I've heard the Zagg are good, they don't suit some cases as the case lifts the protector.

    Thanks.

I ordered that exact case, and have a Zagg shield on the iPhone at the moment. From my past experience with Zagg, the shields don't go well with hard or ridged cases. If the case is a silicone one though, they should work perfectly, thanks to the little bit extra elasticity in the cases. What happens is that the hard cases are designed to exactly fit the iPhone, and the shield adds a little bit of thickness to it, so the case no longer perfectly fits.
