Master for Pharmacist looking to develop career options

    Hi guys,

I am a pharmacist who qualified in the UK a few years ago. To tell youu the truth I have never been totally enamoured with the job and the way things are going at the moment it may be difficult to get work in a few years, so I feel it may be time to develop some alternative options.

I have cast my eye over some of the options out there - to be quite honest retraining say as a med would be too stressful for me, and I feel I would only do it for some more job security.

I have always being interested in the commercial side of the industry and the way companies perform, so one masters i did look at was a Msc in Health Economics at York University in the UK. I hope the course would lead to roles submitting data to bodies like NICE or even evaluating the value of particular project for a company and lead to senior level roles. But I haven't met any graduates of the course so I cannot say for sure, and for all I know the work could be boring and tedious.

I have ruled out a MBA because from what I can see they are only really valuable if you do them at a school that is at the upper end of the FT (or related rankings). This is quite expensive and to be honest I do not think I would get in with current work experience.

    Any advice from fellow posters?
