Its odd when a tv is cheaper in Ireland than in the UK but it is in this case. This 50" hd ready panny is a great tv and a bargain at less than 700€. It is only hd ready as opposed to full HD but you would only see the advantage of this if watching blu ray and a blu ray will still look pretty damn good on this. Panasonic are the best in the business when it comes to plasma's so you can expect excellent black levels and motion clarity on this set. Its the Irish model too so it'll have no trouble picking up Irish DTT

Some have said though that this wont suit if you're in a very brightly lit room and that a better panny model will do this better and they're right, but the next model up costs around 1200€ so thats half a grand more! If you're used to plasma already you'll know this though

It is power city though so who knows how long this price will last, could be gone with in an hour:rolleyes:

Oh, just one thing, this does not have a PC input so watch out on that front

When you mention "PC input" I take it you're referring to VGA? If that's the case, then all is not lost since the TV has 3 HDMI connections and, since the majority of computers would have a digital video out of some description, either a HDMI cable or a DVI => HDMI cable can be used.

Sound doesn't pass through DVI -> HDMI however... And most TV's, with a HDMI plugged in do not allow for an audio in cable to be used in conjunction with the tv itself.... I learned this the hard way :P

It's fine if you have a seperate audio system though!

I know what you mean. My thinking behind this would be that if you're looking to buy a 50" TV, you're not going to merely make do with the TV's integrated speakers. With that said, I agree that it should at least be mentioned to stop someone making the mistake of thinking a DVI cable, in any shape or form, can carry audio. Now if the user in question has an ATI 3/4/5xxx series graphics card, then they could use the often included DVI => HDMI adaptor, with a HDMI cable, that will enable sound. ;)

    not true
all decent graphic cards have either hdmi connector or audio via dvi

"DVI is mostly compatible with HDMI. The main difference is that DVI typically carries no audio data in its TMDS channel, although increasingly, modern PC video hardware is providing audio (e.g., cards by NVIDIA[2] and ATI[3]), allowing the PC to send audiovisual data to a high definition television with an HDMI input. If a PC's DVI output does not provide audio, it can be patched in as part of the DVI to HDMI adapter."

I have an X800 ATi card which is about 3 years old and have found no solution to transferring audio. New gfx card it is for me I suppose :(

I have a samy and use a dvi to hdmi cable and supply audio via rca so long as u use hdmi port 2. Only works with hdmi 2 and is not proper surround of course. Check your manual. I replaced card with smaller low power less heat card with hdmi for less money with same power.

but i heard that these panasonics get darker month by month until 2 years you need the brightness up at full to see anything. ... a quick google should confirm if this model is affected.

Agreed its not the best resolution there is but there are much more important aspects to image quality in reality

This issue is an odd one alright but it DOES NOT affect this particular set, it only affects NeoPDP sets of which this is not. Whats more its only been publicised for the US models with panasonic not issuing any statement on whether this affects European models

This is indeed true, I've built several HTPC's with integrated ATI Radeon HD and all work fine with video and audio via DVI to HDMI cables.

    Thanks OP , Nice TV
