I seen some Gamecube games on adverts.ie that i'd be interested in buying but i'm wondering if they still hold up well to play these days the games I was interested in Pikmin 2,Super Smash Bros Melee & Paper Mario.
I'm also looking for Luigi's Mansion & Ethernal Darkness.
I'm also looking for LOZ:Twilight Princess & Harvest Moon for Gamecube are they as Rare as I think they are

I like Eternal Darkness. I think it's biggest selling point was it's cleverness when it starts ****ing with your brain, and that doesn't diminish as the graphics age. I'd love to explain why but I don't want to spoil it. Suffice to say that it's worth playing badly to get your anxiety meter up in the stratosphere. It's still clunky to control (although no more so than RE4) but it showed great promise.

LOZ and Harvest Moon were easy enough to get at the time. No idea how much harder to find they are now than any other GC games...

Luigi's Mansion has aged well too, 'cause it was a very simple game when it came out. It aimed low, it hit it's target. You'll play it to completion (a handful of hours) and never look at it again, but it's fun in the same way a good kids film can be fun even if it's not aimed at you... As long as it's cheap it's well worth a look

Don't think there's enough of a difference between Smash Bros on the GC and Wii to make owning both worthwhile. at least the Wii has internet play.

A good game is a good game. Most good games hold up over time (Unless of course you're a graphics whore)

Gamecube games aren't even that old.

I still play the odd game of eternal darkness when I'm in the mood, an absolutely brilliant game.

I love going back to old games, Goldeneye is still the favourite multiplayer game in my house :)

Eternal Darkness isn't for everyone though. It's got some excellent concepts and the story and voice work is fantastic. However it's not the best in playability stakes but if you can look pas that then it can be enjoyable.

Righe Racer on the cube is still a great game and better than anything that exists on the Wii right now imo - it even has better graphics than a lot of realistic racers on wii. :(

Burnout 2 and F-Zero GX also still rock :)

    as do...

    Soul Calibur 2
    Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3
    Timesplitters 2
    Viewtiful Joe

oh and I played Conflict Desert Storm 2 the other week again and it's still a lot of fun :)

Star Wars Rogue Squadron is still amazing to play now as when I first got it. Very very fun.

    Wipeout Fusion is excellent too.

They still hold amazingly well. Most of the better games had more stylised anime/cartoon visuals, so they've never been affected by aging as badly.

Paper Mario is a great game, really fun. One of the few rpgs on the system, but plays more like a platformer most of the time, would really recommend it!
Eternal Darkness is good, but, I struggled to get into it, must go back!
I dunno why, but I've always preferred Pikmin 1, thought Pikmin 2 overcomplicated the formula..!

Harvest Moon isn't overly rare at all, wouldn't pay more than 15 for it.
Twilight Princess on the GC is however, released as the GS's swansong really, it had a smallish print run compared to Windwaker. 30 would be a good price for it on eBay.

yeah, Rogue Squadron was an excellent game, I remember staying up till all hours playing it. I lent it to someone years ago and have no idea where it ended up thought

I wish they'd continue the RS series. I remember being blown away by Rogue Leader in 2002. Getting Golds on all the missions was rather hardcore!

    My GC recommendations:
Metroid Prime 1 & 2 (if you have the Wii then get the trilogy instead)
Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil GC Remake (both available on Wii!)
Killer 7 (brilliant over the top madness)
LOZ Wind Waker (graphics haven't aged at all)
Super Mario Sunshine is OK but not as good as SM64
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (got me hooked on the MGS series, brilliant game)
    Mario Kart Double Dash

I think the Gamecube was a great console but was let down by its toy-like appearance. The purple finish looked a bit naff compared to the "coolness" of the PS2 and Xbox. Also the lack of good first-person shooters and Nintendo's complete uninterest in online gaming held it back. Third party support soon dried up and people looked elsewhere for the big franchises. Still it certainly delivered for the great games.

Just as well they picked up a few style tips from Apple, they picked up their game big time!

Agreed, +1 for Resident Evil 4

It also looked better than the PS2 version (which is missing some fog effects and the like), but its also pretty intense so it depends what you're into.

To add. I am an absolute sucker for Luigi's Mansion. Simple yet brilliant gameplay. A satisfactory way to kill a few hours.

Mmmm. May break out my GC later on in the week. Rogue Squadron needs my attention again. :)

Twilight Princess for the GCN was produced in limited numbers, as they wanted people to make the jump to the Wii, and so is quite rare. Last time I saw a copy in a 2nd hand shop it was priced higher than any other GCN game, and higher than any of their Wii games too!

    [edit]
Another vote for Killer 7 here too, complete mentalness, but I absolutely loved it.
Can't really go wrong with any of the suggestions above though.

Loads of Gamecube Games play really well still, especially anything that features cartoon or stylised art style. Make sure you don't pay too much for them though, there are tonnes available on Ebay.

I think a lot of Gamecube games still stand up well. Heck, I think some of the Dreamcast and Megadrive games do as well. But the Gamecube still had a pretty solid graphics engine, maybe in comparison to others not the best, but had some excellent games.

I would recommend Resident Evil 0, 1, 4 and if you can find them 2 and 3 (the latter two are just ports whereas 1 is a completely new remake and 0 and 4 really adopt the graphics) - its also worth tracking down Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes and a few others

I still play this regularly, and I have a copy of it!

Took me months of looking and waiting on Adverts.ie to find a copy, it was worth it, its as good as it looks.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding it on ebay though.

It is super smooth alright. On the gamecube games, just play in the Wii with a high quality component cable, most games look very good.
