Hi all, so have been looking for stick on numberplates for last week online and craigplates don't seem to be doing them for the moment. Is there anywhere i can get these made around dublin? I just want them done up like a normal road legal plate but just that it will be self adhesive. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Try double sided adhesive tape.

Does that really work? Would prefer self adhesive plates as there is a slight curve on the front and probably wouldn't look right otherwise.

There are special adhesive pads you can get to stick plastic plates to the car - they're very common in the UK but I struggled to get them here.

Halfords do them (or they used to at least). They're sh!te. I tried them and the plate fell off after a few days. Ended up drilling holes and screwing the plate on properly.

I know halfrauds are sh!te but what about their plates?:) Didn't even know they did plates. I'll give them a ring tomorrow.

The ones I got in the UK were great, I think they were specifically designed for the job.

Yeah saw those online. They loo interesting but don't think it would work on the curve of the mx5.

    (not my car btw)

I have them on both our cars (the Halfords stickies) and they work very well. The trick is to make sure the car bodywork is clean before sticking them on. You get an alcohol pad with them to make sure it's clean. If there's any dirt there, they will come unstuck.

I had to change the rear number plate on my wife's car and they are a bugger to get off if put on correctly.

I think they look well and are much better and are easier to fit than the drilled ones.

I don't think a normal plate's going to work on that nose without a bracket, TBH.

Yes it works. I used it stick on the front and back plates on my own car. The tape I’m referring to, I picked up in my local motor factors and it has a width of about 2 inches, which allows you to cover the whole plate with two strips.
That said, I think Anan1 is right, you’ll probably need a bracket to hold a normal number plate on that nose.

I used the Halfords stickies for 3 years with no problems. My plate is only screwed on now because my mechanic decided to do it during the last service. As someone else has said you do need to clean with the alcohol pads first and allow time for the alcohol to evaparate (about 60 seconds).

I got mine off eireplates and ordered the 3mm 3M tape. I was a bit worried it wouldn't be able to hold up a heavy stamped metal plate, but it does no problem.

In fact you'd do well to get them off!

I can't see any options on eireplates for self adhesive plates. I guess i should email them. I might just pop into halfords tomorrow. Only need it for the front but now have concerns that it wont work without bracket which already on my mx5 and the reason i to get the stick on plates:) I guess if it doesn't work on the nose, i could just put the bracket back on. I'm sure i'll find somewhere to put it though.

You can get the adhesive in the accessories page these then go on the back of the plate :)

My curved plates are held on by a small bit of d/sided tape and Sikaflex adhesive. I reckon you'd need a chisel to get them off.
