How strict are apple with the apps they allow on their store?

I know content wise it cant be pornographic etc but my app idea is a simple gps one.

If you are technically inclined, get yourself signed up as an App developer. The SDK kit wil have the info you need. You should have fair idea if it meets their criteria before you get into actually developing it and submitting it for approval.

It is a somewhat bizarre system that Apple have in place for app development which is more to do with control rather than ensuring a good user experience.
