I ordered some audio equipment from an Ebay merchant on the 16th of July for £80. The seller has thousands of feedback replies, 99.7% positive.

I never received the item so I got impatient and contacted the seller, he responded with this:

    Hi
    i'll check now.
    tracking = 902269267339

    Service: Fedex INTL Economy

Current status: Delivered, signed for by [my name]
Delivered on the 23rd according to this.

What can I do in this situation? I absolutely did not receive or sign for this item.

I put that tracking number into Fedex's site, and it gives no results.

I changed the tracking number by one digit for the sake of anonymity on here, but the tracking number that he gave me also returns no results.

Paypal dispute, and escalate to a claim. If the tracking number gives no result, but he claims it was signed for by you, ask him to provide the proof of that.

Should I wait until he responds re: proof of signature before I open the paypal dispute or should I just go ahead and open the dispute?

What's the correct tracking number? Fedex just give general info i.e item delivered in Dublin and not exact address so you'll be safe.

Tracking number was actually for interparcel and it turned out to be legit. Parcel can be traced from Seller location to Dublin where it says it has been signed for by me (which it wasn't) I was home at the time the record says the delivery was signed for and no one even called here. I called interparcel and they say they're getting proof of delivery from Fedex.

Where do I stand if the courier delivered it to the wrong address and someone else signed for it?

Just like to add that the last location on the tracking list, where the item was signed for says Dublin. I live in Athlone.

Can't you request a proof of delivery from Fedex?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,512 ✭✭✭Oh_Noes

Yes I've already done so and they say it takes 4-5 days so I'll have to wait on it.

Anyone know what happens if they provide proof of signature and it's not actually my signature?

I've escalated this to a claim now, if Fedex lists that the item was signed for then they could just as easily provide a signature so I don't see what progress would be made, bottom line is that I didn't receive it and proof of signature will just be fraudulent.

If anyone at all has similar experience of something like this or can refer me to a forum where it's discussed a lot I'd be very grateful.

paypal tend to believe the delivery companies as they are "third parties and should have nothing to gain by lying" over buyers and sellers

thats why i hate when my postman decides he can sign my name for parcels and leave them on the step

If the address on the parcel was Athlone and the delivery company have Dublin as the delivery address, I'd say paypal will believe it wasn't delivered to you.

    Paypal dispute best option.

On a general note , and experience working with couriers/ logistics / Postmen , I believe that these guys take too much of a lacadaisical approach to signatures .

Every proof of delivery document ( POD ) should clearly show , signature AND printed signature .

It is not happening and all the logistic companies are at fault .

if paypal dont do anything then i believe you can sue fedex for delivering it to the wrong address.

if it was delivered to the right address you can sue them for not doing their job properly that is someone impersonated you by actually signing your name for the parcel.

to my knowledge they shoould atleast ask for ID.

For paypal, it has to be delivered in the right area. From looking at the OP, he said it showed delivered in dublin but his address is athlone. Should be OK to get a refund via paypal. Let us know how the dispute case turns out OP.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head here for how it's unfolding. Once the seller provided the tracking number the Paypal claim went into "waiting for your action" status. I had no idea what action to take so I rang Paypal in Dublin and they were helpful, they told me that Athlone is outside of the area that can be categorised as Dublin so that delivery location isn't acceptable. Now they have requested receipt of postage that states delivery address from the seller. It's been 24 hours now and he hasn't responded to it yet, I'm not sure what course of action they will take if he can provide a postal receipt with my address.

Just to update that this claim was found in my favour and I was refunded. Never found out what happened in the mix but afterward the seller had the nerve to message me asking me to leave good feedback because he was out of pocket and asked if I wanted to buy the item again. :pac:

Wasn't the sellers fault though, was it?
