Crest White Strips, the american ones. You can get them on ebay.

There's also getting the at-home bleaching trays from your dentist. They cause much less sensitivity than any laser whitening and you can do it gradually and top it up every now and again. I've used this method and it's brilliant.

If anyone tells you to brush your teeth with baking soda or lemon juice or coal or anything like that, DON'T. You'll damage your teeth.

I'm giving it a go as well, so excited!!!

I know this is probably a stupid question but is the teeth whitening permanent or does anyone know how long it lasts?

Actually, I find a dab of baking soda really good for brightening teeth. It does feel a bit weird, but it's a handy home option.

Less than a euro at Tescos, how's that for cheap? :D:D:D:D

I know that it doesn't last for long, as long as you use it. And afeter you stop and start drinking cofee and tea, in a few weeks you can't say you have whiten your teeth

And are u not scare that you damage your enamel by doing that?

I use to do that as well, but after that my dentinst told me that my teeth are very thin and sensitive. (oh, he did't know about me wightening my teeth with baking soda)

Not really. :) I only use it every couple of months and in a very small quantity, so I reckon I should be Ok. I'd love to get a proper whitening done, but I can't afford it. :(

There's actually a really cheap way to do it- if you go on to ebay or amazon.com there's a product in the states called just five minutes whitening gel, it's not expensive at all and it really works. You can brush your teeth with it or use it with mouth trays. Customised mouth trays are really expensive to get but you can make your own if you buy a sports gum shield. They're usually only a couple of euro and if you soak them in boiling water until they're soft and press them against your teeth they take the shape and you can use whitening gel in them. It's really handy!

What whitening does is it whitens the dentine under the enamel of your teeth. Initially your teeth will much whiter but this fades slightly. Your teeth will still be whiter than they were but just be aware that the initial result when you leave the dentist won't last. Also, be aware that if your teeth are particularly dark they won't become a hollywood smile kind of white.

Getting whitening done makes you feel so good though. :) Definitely worth it IMO.

By doing this you are basically scrubbing the enamel off your teeth. It really is a bad idea.

I definitely think the crest whitening strips give excellent results after a week. I bought the pro effects on ebay and lots of people commented on how white my teeth looked. I love coffee and all the typical culprits that stain your teeth but i've managed to maintain it by brushing with a whitening toothpaste and ill do one whitening strip the night before a big occasion every now and then for a boost.

I got the whitening trays from my dentist, was €300 but the results were well worth it! I know have no hesitation to smile and am much more confident. :D

I know its expensive but maybe try save up and invest, I do think they yield the best results.

    My teeth look so different.

Crest white strips are brilliant. I only used a few because I thought they might make my teeth too white!

i'd love to get my teeth whitened also but i have a crown on my front tooth (well i think its a crown but could be a filling, how are you supposed to know? it was fitted ages ago when i chipped half my front tooth and i cared less what the dentist was doing so long as he fixed it! it doesnt cover my whole tooth, just the bit i chipped and looks like my tooth) i've been thinking about getting the crest whitestrips (the strongest ones-supreme i think they're called) but havent ordered them incase they wont whiten my crown/or whatever it is!! any advice/suggetions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,375 ✭✭✭fonpokno

No type of whitening will whiten your crown/filling. You could get your teeth whitened and then have the crown/filling replaced but if it is a crown it could be very expensive for you. If it's a filling the cost wouldn't be as much.

You'd have to get your teeth whitened, wait until the colour had settled back and then get a crown/filling to match the colour of the teeth.

You'd be best to go have a chat with your dentist about it before doing anything.

i'm on ebay looking at 'crest 3d whitestrip', for 10 dollars. there's 14 strips. good price? are they the american ones that will work? i don't want to pay 15 quid with shipping etc and they're useless or whatever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭anthonymax

That's a great price. I got a box of 14 strips when I was in USA last year, they cost about 12 or 13 dollars in the chemist there. They are FANTASTIC. I only got through seven strips and I stopped because my teeth were white enough after seven!

    Can't recommend these highly enough.

    excellent!!

I just had a look at the box of strips I have, it doesn't say 3D, they are called Crest Whitestrips Advanced Seal, not sure if they are the same?

Sorry! I did get mine last year, so maybe 3D are even better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 71 ✭✭kylie123

Hi all, I have been dying to use these strips. I bought them last year but have been too chicken to try them. All your responses have been so positive, I think i'll try them now. One question though. When you stick the strips on are they hard to peel off when the 20 minutes is up or do they come off easily?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭anthonymax

No not hard at all. They leave a bit of a bleachy taste in your mouth is all.

I got this stuff in Dunnes Stores a few weeks ago and have noticed a difference.

I also stopped drinking coke though and cut down on junk food, so maybe that's helped also.

I paid around €3 in Dunnes Stores for this.

I do that too! Learned it from my granny. She used to mix it with lemon juice and scrub onto our teeth with a face cloth - tastes manky but it works.

I have used the crest strips and they do work but be careful if you have sensitive teeth - mine ached like hell for days and no pain killers would stop it. I had to stop using them - gutted :(

iv used the crest vivid advanced seal for the past 3 days and have defo noticed a visible improvement. my bottom teeth have been the tiniest bit sensitive but not bad at all! I noticed after the first day that my teeth seemed to be different shades of white I think thats because my teeth seem to be a few different shades! I am hoping it all evens out though... anyone notice this??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 126 ✭✭fabregas4cesc

wouldn't mind slightly different shades, happy enough they've gotten a bit whiter! used the whitestrips for 3 days in a row and been using arm and hammer whitening toothpaste, laughing now! well, getting past the yellow shaded days anyway, looking good!

I got my teeth lazer whitened in Dec after buying the boards deals voucher for white smiles clinic. It was half off so only €90 for a half hour session and even today 4 months later someone remarked how white my teeth were, and I drink a lot of tea.

    http://sale.dentist.net/products/crest-whitestrips-supreme

I use these all the time they are excellent, I dont use them every day as they can cause sensitivity but everyone has noticed my teeth are whiter :D

This stuff probably isn't great for your teeth but i've just started using it and can notice a difference already.

    http://www.ciao.co.uk/Reviews/Eucryl_Smokers_Toothpowder__5308675

It's the normal version i've been using, not the smokers.
The best part is it's in the €2 Shops - 2 for €3. Given the results i've been seeing already, and how rare it is i'm gonna stock up!
