I got on the bus in Wicklow at 9:00 this morning, heading for the airport to go on two weeks holiday. Listening to a Podcast on the way and after sending a Jelly SMS the screen went white

Two weeks of not being able to send or receieve calls or text messages, my teethering is still working hence this post.

My flight leaves at 13:00 this afternoon, anybody got any bright ideas?

assuming rebooting/turning off done already. Is it picked up in itunes?
Here is some info i found

When your iPhone displays only white on its screen – not any icons, not the Apple logo, nothing else – this is clearly a problem. There are three steps you can take to try to fix it.

    Restart the iPhone

The fix step in any iPhone troubleshooting process is to restart the iPhone. Do this by holding down the hold button at the top left of the phone until a red slider appears onscreen. Slide it to turn the phone off and, when it’s off, turn it back on again by holding down the hold button until the Apple logo appears.

    Reset the iPhone

If this doesn’t work, try resetting the iPhone. You do this by holding both the Home button and the hold button at the same time. Do this until the screen flashes and the Apple logo appears, indicating that the phone has restarted.

    Restore the iPhone from Backup

If this doesn’t work, try restoring the iPhone from a backup of its data. Sometimes files on the phone get corrupted and need to be replaced with older, working versions in order to fix the problem.

    If None of This Works

If you’ve tried all three of these steps and the problem still isn’t fixed, you’ve likely got an issue that you can’t fix. In this case, give Apple tech support a call or make an appointment at your local Apple Store for support.

Thanks for the info. I've tried everything in your post except the full restore.

Yes the phone is recognized by iTunes. In fact the podcast is still playing and I can hear text messages coming in. So the phone seems to be sworking otherwise.

Had thought about the restore, however, not sure if I need to be on the net or not. The problem if I do is that of course my iPhone is providing the internet right now.

Ok, if you don't hear from me again then the restore went really bad for me and I'm going to have a quite holiday - actually, I'm growing to that prospec t by the minuute :D

You would need the internet alright to activate it. Maybe do it in net cafe/wifi spot?

Restore did not work, I guess it's into VF for a warranty claim when I get home.

Thankfully I had the foresight to pre-cut my SIM card before I left home (put it in an adaptor for the 3GS), I can at least roam on my iPad while away. I've set the APN to live.vodafone.com on the iPad so data roaming is free :D
