    Hello all,

Thought this might be of interest to some of you:

A Canada-based Aviation Services Company is looking for an Ireland-based volunteer(s) for a number of small aviation related projects.

The initial projects contain the following elements: Air traffic control, Airways and route availability, flow management, Airport and runway availability, HF and VHF radio use.

In our group of volunteers we would like to include the following:

    - An aviation enthusiast
    - A Radio hobbyist, interested in HF & VHF Aero listening
    - A spotter - civil aircraft
    - Someone interested in SBS/Airnav Radar
    - An overflight/contrail/dot-spotter
    - A flight simulator enthusiast

The involved person should also have a relatively good understanding of computers and the internet, and world geography.

    Some further points:
    - You would need a few hours per week to devote to the project, not much more.
    - There is no remuneration initially, however as the project develops there is definite scope for reward.

If you are interested, have some time to spare, and fit the profile, please contact: atfm.project@gmail.com

I've written and volunteered for this company and they seem keen. I get the feeling they are genuine but if it takes off and is commercially successsful how can a volunteer be assured that his/her efforts is not just going to line their pockets ?

Maybe I'm being paranoid but I think it's a valid concern and needs to be addressed.

I should add that as long as it is genuine I would be hugely interested.

Having received a nice e-mail from this company I can be sure that they are genuine.

I'm sure they're genuine but I too would have preferred this be discussed with us first.

ANY commercial interaction, even if its just for "volunteers" for a project must be approved by the powers that be. Looks like plain old market research for a new product to me.

Yes the thing that alerted me was that exactly the same post was on a number of other aviation forums across the world. Anyway having exchanged a couple of e-mails with them they seem fine. They have to expect some level of suspicion from people though.

We do expect plenty of suspicion! Mind you we all love spotting a scam ...

I can assure you all that there is nothing underhand here. I'm going to list a few more specific parts of the project that might encourage some further interest ... so have a look at this ... if it seems up your alley, send me an email and let me know.

The commercial aspect of any of this is debateable - I'm not certain that there is one. It is connected to a business that provides Aviation Services but its not the core focus of any of these projects to sell anything that develops from it.

    - A worldwide ETOPS airport favourite list with current weather picture for each (eg. Shannon, Santa
Maria, Sal Island, Christmas Island, Male, etc.)

    - A worldwide airspace picture - with input from ATC, ATFM Flow control portals, Notams, etc. on each
continent. Ultimately designing a map to include that data.

    - Collecting some interesting radio VHF/HF listener reports, and using this data to update content

    - A review of the use of SBS-Radar data for use in an airspace picture

    - Finding community representatives for each continent, and looking at sources of current ATC,
    AIC/AIRAC/NOTAM data

    - A look at the worlds Oceanic Areas and what information we can develop there. North Atlantic/NAT Tracks,
Pacific Ocean/PACOTS, Indian Ocean AORRAs, EUR/SAM corridor. HF Radio and its use, the development
    of CPDLC, and ADS-B.

    - Collecting some info from enthusiasts on interesting airport movements - from which to update an
occasional news/article of interest section for a website (maybe some interesting PHL movements!)

    - Developing a worldwide collection of charts and airspace maps - for multiple purposes, including use
by Aircraft Operators to plan international flights.

    - Using some of the most recent web technologies to develop a live information source for airlines,
aircraft operators. Looking at twitter, blogs, xml, RSS feeds.

    Cheers
