I've a 2006 Macbook Pro. 15" screen, 2.0Ghz Intel Core Duo processor and 2GB of RAM.

Everywhere I read I'm told the max this machine could handle is 2GB. Does anyone know is it possible to double this to 4GB?

Core Duo would make it one of the first generation Macbook Pros. In which case, I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Afaik Apple wrote it into the firmware, so even if the chip could take it, it's a no go. It was only the later Merom chip C2D MBPs that could take 4GB.
