PZO 200. Saw it a few years back at a show and of all the many cars there this one just stole the show for me.

I notice the price has dropped a little (not much) obviously the price is too high for the current market.

Just hope its being driven and maintained while it awaits sale. Would be a real pity to see it deteriorate through non use.

was it shipped here in CKD form and then put together in Dublin?

That car was at Terenure this year, I had a good look at it. It's an original Irish car, apparently it's had a very expensive restoration in the US. I couldn't fault the condition, but I personally couldn't live with the interior colour scheme. MercManBen knows a lot about the history of this car.

    I very much doubt it.:)

Shipping the car to America to have it restored?

Surely the boys in Germany would do just as good of a job!

There's some specialist out there but his name escapes me right now..

I just love this car, it's awesome in the truest sense of the word. My jaw drops every time I see it. It was great to get up close to it at Terenure.

    Wow, from that Octane thread.....
It was originally sold by Dermot Wallace's father in the Ever Ready Garage in Donnybrook,

...wow, that means my Dad bought his W111 from him too - my Dad paid £800 in 1969 for an ex-Papal Nuncio W111 220Seb, and it came with the most fantastic folder for the service history, all with the Esso oval logo on the top.....

...which brings up one thing: is it possible to get that exact style of no plate, still - the chromed separate pieces - not just a screen printed silver-on-black, which always looks a bit 'fake' to me, tbh........

    Ode To The Motorist

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

The Ace type? Yes,but they can be expensive if you get the aluminium lettering.

Yes, they are hand-polished aluminium digits and as such expect to part with a three figure sum for a pair.

That sounds like a lot of cash in '69. And some car to smoke around in when you think of the transport of the day, Austins, Morris Minors and horses.

What's that relative to these days? Like, say what was the cost of a new Cortina in '69 when we consider the modern day equivalent Mondeo is about 30k (I guess).

    In 1969
    Cortina 1300 2 dr £878
    extra £34 for 4 dr
    extra £132 for automatic

    Cortina 1600 £987
    Cortina Estate £1090

    Mercedes 200 (W115) was £2100

A 2nd hand price guide from 69 I have says Mercedes 200 Fintail values were
    1965 £1,000
    1966 £1,150
    1967 £1,350

sounds like the 220SEb was a bargain;)

Thanks for the perspective. Does look like a bargain.

Just goes to show how Mercedes have pulled down their prices. A modern E class isn't 2.5 times the cost of a basic Mondeo.

If its still for sale then surely its priced too high?

    (you can't argue with logic...)

Not necessarily. There is a limbo and it is caused by the seller's dilemma :)

In this case the car has been for sale for €80k for several years and the asking price has now dropped to €70k. The seller is obviously keen to sell and kinda needs the cash (but probably not desperately) hence the price drop, although the earlier price is not unrealistic imho but that said the market for selling any car in general, and this car in particular, is poor. Normally the original Irish reg would add a lot to the value of the car, but I'm not so sure there are any Irish punters around both appreciating that and having the cash to spend on this magnificent Mercedes

The last resort for the owner would be to sell it into the UK market. That would mean writing off the value of the Irish plate though so I'm sure the owner would not be keen to go down that route until he had to...

Is this the only irish one registered? Cant be many more around?
