    What's going on here ?

We have a number of Airports which are logically named - Dublin Airport / Cork International Airport / Shannon Airport / Connaught Regional Airport etc.

Now thats fine to this poster - simple / logical.

According to the papers though a number of coucillors have proposed some name changes.

A proposal is for Dublin Airport to be renamed Lemass Airport or sommat along those lines.

And it seems that in Cork the shinners have got into the act and proposed a name change for Cork Airport to Terence McSwiney Airport - others have suggested that it should be called Christy Ring Airport etc etc.

Now I have nothin against any of these luminaries / patriots but surely the plain people of Ireland are HAPPY WITH THE EXISTING NAMES.

And how can we stop a small body of vested interests changing the names ?

It's fcukin ludicrous that this can even be a proposal - can we not say Dublin Airport is Dublin Airport and stop trying to fcukin change it .

Have ye cretins not somethin more important to do ?

Jeeze it makes my piss boil ....

Aren't they even going to let people have a say when it come to renaming airports? I mean it's only our tax money that built the damn thing ffs.

They won't rename anything. Its just some lazy councillor getting himself in the paper.

Would not be too sure of that pal...these things have a habit of getting legs and eing a fait accompli efoe the general public know about it.

My real point is how can a shower who git 5% of electoral vote in last election even have a say in renaming any Airport ?

lest u be in doubt I speak of The Shinners ....

He already has, about 4 days ago Ryanair set up an online poll to name the airport. On After Hours the most popular suggestion seemed to be 'Father Ted Crilly International Airport'.

I would suggest that Shin Fein may have got more than 5% of the vote in the Local Elections in Cork, Though I may be wrong.

I would Imagine that Terence McSwiney would be a popular name in Cork anyway.

Terence McSweeny won't be claimed exclusively by Sinn Fein.

Councillors from other parties would support him too for the renaming if it happens

I Suppose since they named the Tunnel after Lynch they've got a fashion for namin stuff

People seem to be missin the obvious one with these airports.

Airports get abbreviated to 3 Letters
LAX, LHR, FRA, BNE, JFK etc

So Its obvious really who we should name the AIrport after

    CJH

Cork Airport, Dublin Airport, simple and direct, why needlessly confuse travelers?

Besides, have none of these eejits in these recessionary times considered the cost of renaming? I bet we're talking hundreds of thousands wasted on branding and road signage etc. All to make some daft county councilor with too much time on his hands feel important when money could be better spent.. oh I don't know.. ensuring water supplies and building flood defences and all that trivial stuff that the county council just can't seem to be bothered doing.

Country is flat broke and the cabbages that are running the place are proposing to change the name of the airport for no apparent reason. Surely there has to be some common sense shown as anything like this will cost money to change the name on all official documentation, new road signs...etc etc

really scary that this is even an option at the minute and shows just how delusional this country is when they seem happy to spend money they dont have on something so trivial while the people are being hit with taxes left right and centre.

Sell the naming rights. We have the Aviva Stadium, why not the Ryanair Dublin International Airport or the Aer Arran Galway Airport or the Pfizer Cork Airport (instant tag-line: up! up! and wahey!)?

I'd honestly rather see Ireland whore it's airports to some corporation than piss money into the wind renaming them after a historical hero - most of whom would be divisive on this island.
