32 g no 6 always do the job for me, its plenty for knocking them.

i use either 3/4 or full in my beretta, fiocchi do a nice cartridge

If your decoys are close enough to hide (about 25 - 30 yards) then you'll easily knock them dead with 28 gram clay shots no. 7. Makes a big difference on a good day with the price of cartridges now. I use half choke.

You'd be surprised how many people set the decoys out too far.....pace it next time to check....you'd be surprised how close the decoys seem at 30 yards!

If your not looking to spend more money than you have to fiestaman, I think you should buy the same as me 7 and a 1/2 trap cartriges with a 3/4 choke on the semi. Eley make 28g cartriges for €45 in my dealer. (250 cartriges). There more than enough for knocking crows and pigeons out to 30 yards.

    noting less than 30g 6s . i like 32g 6 with a half ,three quarter choke or full for 30grm .

a trap shell is best left to the clay type pigeons ,despite what people will tell you .
first off you will not stick to 30yds ,a pigeon is well feathered and will take a few pellets of lite shot .

i would not use quarter choke .

note to the lads using lite shot and open chokes ,the feathers floating in the air after a so called miss ,means a peppered pigeon that will die slowly in the days weeks to come .

It can still happen with a slightley heavier load cant it:rolleyes:.

roll your eyes all you like .

i have shot pigeon for the last over decoys and roost shooting for 25 years ,in that time i have used my fair share of 7.5s 1oz loads .

A trap shell will kill a pigeon , but not as well or as consistently as a 32gram .

you will find using a 30 -32gram you will use less shells , kill more pigeons , pepper less and enjoy your day more .

im rolling my eyes here cos i know that what your saying may be true about roost shooting on a windy november night with birds coming from all directions
But and it's a big but ,pigeons over decoys if you know what your doing( and the likes of archie coats and other do or should that be did r.i.p ) were quite happy to use trap shells in 7.5 in lightly choked game guns ;)
if you know your game and set up decoys correctly most birds will come in up wind , and present a head first shot . improved cylinder or at most 1.4 choke even with 28grm shells in 7 -7.5 are perfectly adequete for that at 30ish yards. plaswads or fibre wadding makes a huge difference too its all about patern density and kinetic energy

at 30 odd yards with a trap shell using cylinder chokes ,you have very poor pattern density .

i shot 420 pigeons one day i had 3 flight lines coming to me there was very little wind .
i tried to head shoot but alas in not the best sporting shot:rolleyes:.

in the early of A coats there was not to many decoying pigeon ,he was the original .pigeon were not like not ,jumpy .

George digweed shot 661 pigeons using tight chokes with 6-5s in 32-34gran loads .

A days pigeon shooting you will almost get every shot in the book .

doctors differ and patients die ;) the best i ever did was just under 300 shot in one afternoon over peas every one shot with ounce loads, loaded by myself in winchester aaa trap hulls improved cylinder in one barrell and 1/4 in the other.in my experience which is about as long as yours from what you have posted ,shooting full and 3/4 chokes at decoying ranges meant a lot of smashed and mushed birds ,been there tried it in fact my gun was full and 3/4 choke but i got it bored out for the job and never looked back , however shooting a shotgun with very tight chokes teaches you to be accurate :D
and at 30yrds with a cylinder barrell and no7s you have a perfectly good pattern if you spend a bit of time and find what shoots well from your gun not just picking whats available and cheapest
this is turning into a pi+++ng contest lol jw my land rover has a bigger engine than yours so there

    30yds is not far .

if you only shot birds out to 30yds you would have a dull day .

not it's not, it's average distance if you set your decoy pattern at that distance you'll get shots at every distance imaginable from point blank to out of range , the object of decoying is like you with your stalking it is to lessen the distance between you and your quarry

Proof of the pudding is in the eating, I was out early this morning 7 bells, using 28gr. 8s.ad shot 34 pigeons and used 40 shot's all over decoys at between 30 and 40 yrds.1 pigeon had to be discarded as I made ****e of him I could have shot more but only took what I can get rid of for myself and friends.
