Ireland - Health & Safety Gone Mad (Warning: Dutch canals inside)

    Here is my rant

Health & Safety has gotten ridiculous at this stage and they are taking the pi$$

do you know in Amsterdam they have a river running through the city, no walls, railings, markings or sign's, there's a cycle lane right beside the river. You can also buy all sorts of drugs over there, guess what no signs saying, mind the river, don't cycle into the river, don't drive into the river,
etc... amsterdam ppl have this thing called common sense which we irish have obviously lost due to our culture being raped
So anyway what happened. Has H&S being caused by women in the workplace since their equality in the 60's as it wasn't around before then or what.
Mind the step, mind your head, don't drive into the river please etc...
have we become like the amercans sueing everyone and everything in site unless there is a H&S sign over or beside it?

What's women in the workplace got to do with health and safety, first of all?

Secondly, I'd agree with your point. It has gone a bit too far - especially the suing part. I understand having fire escapes, things that are basic safety necessities, but people who sue for every little trip and graze are going over the top.

I don't mean women caused it but.....
any place I've ever worked in the Health & Safety dept. is dominated if not entirely run by women. the face they are in gov, everywhere.

You see I will explain it to you

when they were men in the workplace there was no H&S
women got equality and got into gov around the 60's / 70's
    now Ireland is H&S mad
so I am only putting 2+2 together and prob getting 5

ppl shouldn't be allowed to sue over stupid things, common sense should be used not signs.

you all know what I mean, no doubt a female moderator will lock this thread now over a debatable subject as I did not put a warning H&S sign on it

It's fcuking idiots slipping on water or falling down a manhole, & claiming compensation, that has health & safety gone mad.

I'm all for tearing down the walls around the Liffey if that's what you're asking OP?

But it seems you're saying women in the workplace has caused Health and Safety warning to go up?
Do you mean women are more likely to sue?

I'm a guy but I might just lock this anyway.
Title change to add H&S warning.

I was once lumbered with H&S in my workplace. As far as I can tell women seem to get the job not because they've a mania for it, but because management think that men will just file everything under 'it'll be grand' and women will actually report when they see something dangerous around the place.

I am not trying to be bad towards women or sexist, I am simply calling it as I see it and H&S are dominated by women, simple as that.

if you were to go back to the 60's and equality never took place would the world be H&S mad as it is today, in Ireland, UK and America only, everywhere else common sense is used instead.

just curious and I am not saying only women sue, you said that not me.
I simply pointed out that they dominate the H$S depts. in any workplace that I've worked at

No, I have observed the H&S warning to go up and would like other people's opinions on the subject and why it has gone up before I can make my final decision

Are there no women in Amsterdam then?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 283 ✭✭mikerowsopht

There are plently of lovely women in Amsterdam whom seem to have the ability to use common sesnse by not driving, walking or cycling in the river, minding their heads etc.....
