    Hmmm....

I wonder will this affect the people (like me) who opted out of their contract...

Look at the bit at the bottom of that page about the "early upgrade fee"... it seems to depend on the date of your last upgrade...

(and that's ON TOP of the cost of your new iPhone!)

Heh, your screenshot is tiny :D

    http://www.o2online.ie/shop/phones/iphone/iphone-4/

    No major changes there.

Looks like three still have the best offer at €40, though there's not a massive amount between O2 and 3.

Vodafone are literally miles behind here. You'd have to be a moron to stick with them.

As well as the extra per month, they're charging an extra €110 for the phone up front (on, say the €40/€45 tariff).

    Sly one that.

wow i feel kinda let down. its true im prepay, but i have been 100% loyal to 02 for 10 years. i would have though that would have been good enough to allow me to "upgrade" to a bill pay plan and get an iphone 4

Just got an email from them too

    Hi Phillip,

Thanks for registering your interest with us to receive further information about the iPhone 4. It's available from the 30th July on O2 and we expect it to be as popular in Ireland as it is in other countries.

    Hot Cakes

We think they'll be sold out quickly and that's why we want to look after our existing customers first.

And don't worry, if we run out of stock, we'll keep ordering them back in – so we'll do our best to get one to everyone.

To get your hands on an iPhone 4 you'll need to be an existing customer since 1st June 2010.

    Check Your Upgrade

So check your upgrade eligibility for an iPhone and if you're not eligible maybe an early upgrade option might be available for you. Check Here.

You can buy your iPhone 4 directly from our online shop, however, if you're an existing broadband only customer or a pre pay customer you'll have to visit an O2 store – as we'll have some paper work that you'll need to fill out – don't forget to bring some photographic ID and proof of address.

    Our Price Plans

For example – for just €60 a month you can get 350 mins, 150 texts and 2GB of data. And with our selection of Free Extras you can choose an iPhone plan that fits with you.

So, if you like to talk a lot, we offer free evening and weekend calls to any network.

And if you use the internet a lot, then you can add 3GB of internet browsing and broadband.

    Open Early

We're expecting lots of interest on the day of launch, so we'll be opening up some of our main stores extra early at 8am on 30th July. Find out which ones here.

And, if it's simply an iPhone that you're after, then we'll have plenty of stock of the iPhone 3GS to hand – with iOS 4 software. Find our deals here.

    And Don't Forget!

With O2, you'll also get access to some pretty good stuff – like a chance to get Priority tickets to The O2, 48 hours before general release. And with O2 Treats, you'll discover a world full of daily treats such as €4 cinema tickets, 2 for 1 deals and some special treats too.

For further updates on the iPhone 4 follow our forum on forums.o2online.ie.

    O2 iPhone team

I got an email about it too.

Looks like they're going to be doing upgrades only - in store & online, with a limited number online. They don't say when on Friday they're going to be available online though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,375 ✭✭✭kmick

I wonder if they will "provide" a basic upgrade if you threaten to port your number to 3 now that they released me from my contract due to their screw up.

Unlike Vodafone, nice to see one company that tries to look after their existing customers. ;)

I got the email too, read the small print and it seems only available first to those who sign up to the €60 per mth option.

I'm in the same boat as Heliosvector and frankly; after having been with o2 since I bought my very first mobile phone all those years ago, I'll have no qualms with taking my buisiness to the Three network. This is the last straw with o2. I would have been completely willing to upgrade to billpay but with this ridiculous move; they've lost a very loyal customer.

Maybe theres some hope for us on prepay after all :)

Not just upgrades if i'm reading right. It says existing customers...........

If i am on pre pay i should be entitled to a 1st time connection as i am an EXISTING CUMSTOMER ???????

Sorry there is a bit at the top not in that pic.

At first due to stock limitations, it will be available to existing o2 bill pay customers only. Once stock levels increase, we can offer iphone 4 to new customers at the prices shown here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

Just got the email there. What're these terms and conditions all about?
Phone 4 is available, while stocks last, to existing O2 customers (as at 1/6/10) who avail of the O2 Advance 350 + 2GB price plan on a 12 or 18 month contract with a Free 3GB Broadband Extra.

This reads to me like they'll only be selling it to customers on Friday with this plan... but the o2 site seems to suggest otherwise? Confusing.

Yep, you're right. If you don't have a postpay plan at present, but you do have some other O2 service, you can get it in a shop. Current postpay customers can upgrade online.

Good eyes there, I missed that. there should be some law that says that the print at the end cannot be a different colour or font to the rest of the message

Also wondering how different upgrades affect the purchase price e.g. I am due a Silver upgrade?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,155 ✭✭✭Sideshow Mark

You forgot the bottom of that email, although there is no mention of this on their site which indicates that if you have an upgrade due you can go for any price plan...
iPhone 4 is available, while stocks last, to existing O2 customers (as at 1/6/10) who avail of the O2 Advance 350 + 2GB price plan on a 12 or 18 month contract with a Free 3GB Broadband Extra. Free Extra ceases after 18 months. Price plan allowances exclude roaming. Device charges apply See O2.ie for terms. Registration for O2 Treats required. Special Treats are subject to availability and activity provider terms. For terms and conditions see www.o2.ie

    Can't be right, can it?

This is exactly me. I've been with o2, or whatever they used to be called, since 2000. I was planning to start a new contract with this phone since I'm tired of paying through the nose for internet use on prepay.
I'm going to talk to someone in the o2 shop ASAP, and if they can't help me, I'll threaten to walk and see what happens.

The price list shows a 16GB iPhone 4 on an 18 month contract for €259 on the O2 iPhone 4 page. Checking the twitter feed for upgrade options it gives the same price (€259) for a silver upgrade. Does this mean only people with silver upgrade and up are eligible and there's no discount available (unless you've got a gold upgrade – €50 cheaper)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭paulhardman

    O2 Prepay prices:

Prepay Customers can upgrade to iPhone 4, as long as you joined O2 before 1st June 2010. Prepay Upgrade prices are: 16GB €579, 32GB €679

Prepay Customers can move to Billpay on iPhone, you must have joined O2 before 1st June 2010. Prices are here: http://bit.ly/bhAgO0

    question,

does upgrade price depend on what plan your on as in 40 a month one price and 60 a month another price ?

    Also 12 or 18 month contract ?

    Hmmmmm,

70 more than i was judging, i was thinking about 229 on a Gold Upgrade !

Right i've just been on to two customer care workers, in o2, one was atrocious the other one seemed more helpful.

I cancelled my contract with them due to that Reg 17 crap last month but i'm still a bill paying customer paying month to month on the advance150 plan.

What i asked her was if i'm in an o2 shop at 8am on Friday morning would i be able to sign up for a 12th contract and stay on my advance 150 plan? She confidently said yes.

Does this sound right to people here?

Are people going to buy online (to get Monday??) or chance calling into a shop (would they have units on instore Friday)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 frakked

Having just got a call from O2, I'm feeling alot more relaxed about it now. The only trouble is the early morning que, and not knowing how many units will be available. Bugger.

It'll be the shop for me I reckon... for various reasons.

Only question is WHICH shop? I'm in South County Dublin so Dundrum and Dun Laoghaire are the obvious two, but it's difficult to decide without knowing how busy it'll be or how much stock the shops are getting.

I'd say Dun Laoghire is a better bet, as Dundrum is always packed.

I figured as much, but then I wonder if Dundrum would get more units for that reason?

Okay, this speculation is just going to drive me insane... suppose I'll play it by ear!
