Car battery question

How long can a car battery be viable if not in use.

Basically a car has been sitting idle for the past seven months and the battery is flat. Can it be charged by means of a charger or would it be completely useless at this point ?

    Thx

I'd say it knackered at this stage.
Buy a cheap multi-meter and check
    its voltage.

It will have gone flat as current will have leaked away through the circuit, once it's charged it will be perfect again. Should be no need to replace it.

Charge it up with a trickle charge, make sure liquid levels are correct first.

See if it holds charge then. It may be fine.

Wear goggles etc when opening cells!!!!!!!!!

You could bring it to motor factors after charging and get them to do a load test etc.

7 months is nothing - charge it up and it should be fine.

So you'se reckon it should be ok ?

A standard charger is always handy to have, basic one about €20.

Also get yourself a basic multmeter too.

Chance charging it over night, then take the car for a drive,

if its gonna fail and not hold the charge you'll know then.

Have a "phone a friend" on stand by with some jumper cables just incase.
