I think thats very competitive. 18Month contract - ok - thats the norm - but at least they are being creative with their price plans. I like that Flex Units stuff.

Prices seem reasonable. Like the flexi units option.

That basic 40 quid deal isn't too bad at all, especially if one of the free add-ons suits you.

At least it's something different to what the other two offered so far (i.e. Vodafone looked at o2's plans and changed the name).

IE would if i want to use my upgrade to get an iPhone, will i have to change to a price plan thats 40/60/80/95 euro per month?

I would think you will have to switch to the new price plans.

2GB data/Free Wifi/1 extra ad on is pretty decent on the 40euro per month plan.

Yeah I rang a couple of days ago and the guy said my plan would be different. The €40 plan is pretty similar to the Relax 350 except that 1 unit = 2 text messages or 500 kB data messages but easily compensated by free add on and 2 Gb of data.

studying it I suppose it is competitive alright, I guess my problem is everyone I ring or text is on VF so I'm caught..

I don't get it, this free add on business. Why would you choose the 500mb freebie instead of the 2gb one?
Anyway, was on to customer care just now to confirm my upgrade status and the girl said she couldn't give me any idea of prices but they hope to know later in the week! :)

    *rubs hands in glee*

Now, the only question is... do I get up at midnight to go in and get one?

Just gave them a call there (got the Mrs to call too, we've been keeping our upgrades for this) and we both got the same blank wall when trying to find out about upgrade discounts. Hopefully they know at midnight on Thursday.

The 2gb add on is only available to people on the highest plan according to the terms and conditions.

The €40 plan looks good to me with the extra add on. It should save me a few quid.

I recently got out of my contract with O2. Will I be able to just change over to Three without having to buy an Iphone 4?

Also if I have changed over to three and I want to buy an Iphone 4 down the line will I still be able to buy them at the prices quoted for upgrades and new customers?

Sounds like a good deal to me... Meteor have been doing my head in lately, 3 deal looks pretty good and free 3 to 3 calls would suit me as most of my calls are made to the missus n she'd be on 3 too...

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 25,558 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dades

    Do three offer webtexts?

And I don't suppose Eirtext supports them? :)

Quite a big factor in reality, especially if you send a good few group texts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭unklerosco

Well I guess I'll be staying with Meteor... They just upgraded my contract and are sending me a new iphone for myself n the missus...

    Any chance of more details?

Are they sending you an iPhone 4 or 3Gs? Did they offer it to you or did you threaten to leave and demanded it? How much did they charge for the handset?

    Questions..:)

I left three about 4 months ago but was using eirtext on my iphone 3gs before that. It does support it unless there has been a change since

I'm not sure I like the flex units options. 350 units = 350 mins OR 700 texts. I think I'll try and buy a sim free iphone 4 and change my plan to meteor Smart Plan. They offer 500 mins, 500 texts, 2gb internet and free calls and texts to meteor for €5 more than the 3 plan mentioned above. I could always sell the phone I take with the plan towards my iPhone 4 couldn't I?

according to eirtext website it does, ive never heard of it not supporting 3 ?
    Supported Providers:

    - O2.ie
    - Meteor.ie
    - Vodafone.ie
    - Three.ie

16gb 3Gs as far as I know... I threatened to leave, I've two numbers with them. Told them it was nonsense that I've been with them for 6 years and the new plans are only open to new customers. Said I was gonna move to 3 cause their plans are similar and they have the iphone.

They moved me to the new contracts and extended my free meteor to meteor calls from 12 - 18 months.

The handsets are free and I'll have them tomorrow. I'll be selling one of them and the 2 iphone 3g's that we have at the mo to buy myself a sim free 4g.

The 2gb comes free with all the plans. Its nit automatically free on the flex plans. The iphone plans are flex max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,648 ✭✭✭kingshankly

this looks generous to me I could have 550 minutes, 200 texts and 2 gb for 60 euro. wonder what the reception is like in the sticks

    I'm afraid I don't understand this sentence!

Do you get 2GB allowance automatically (without an add on) on all the plans in that table is what I'm wondering? :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 171 ✭✭Heliosvector

im actually well impressed with threes price plans. i love the flexiplan idea. now i can simply only text all i want without having to think in the back of my head "gee im letting all this voice call time go to waste"
I for one will be at the limerick 3 store at midnight

    Yes.

The terms and conditions state that your free add-on cannot be a data add-on, therefore your data allowance is part of the package.

Looks like I'm going with Three, I'll be F5in' the page come midnight Friday with my laser card and bank details ready to copy and paste in. Now just need to sell my 3G...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭OCD

do you need to be an existing 3 customer to stand a chance of getting this on friday or is it a free-for-all?

three's prices are fantastic but are there any 3 users out there that would wholeheartedly recommend them?

to be honest. 3 really isnt that popular of a network. its not because its bad, just popularitywise. i think this iphone release for them will give them an amazing customer base. for this reason, dont expect the prices to stay this good for too long. get on the bandwagon while you can

These price plans are uniformly excellent in the Irish market, the 2Gb is the most sensible and generous allowance and I unreservedly recommend 3.

I'm curious about this too but given Threes lack of customers and no mention of it on their site I'd say they'll sign anyone up.

3 offer 333 NATIONAL SMS as web texts which can be easily used with both EirText Pro and JellySMS. In fact they are consistently the easiest and most reliable to send via either of these apps.

Was with 3 and left as quick as i could, customer service was awful and network was bad as well.

I'd talk to some current 3 customers before i'd tie myself to an 18 month contract.

My mate moved to their prepay from voda and moved back as soon as the 20 euro credit was spent !

Three always seem to have had extremely competitive price plans, I don't think they're suddenly going to get much dearer.

They've had the same problems that meteor had when they started in the Irish market - the vast majority of the userbase had already been consumed by Vodafone and O2, and they had patchy coverage while they built up their network. Three have a 3G-only licence, and so resell someone else's 2G services to give them full coverage.

At the time they launched, the benefits of having a 3G network were unclear and 3G was mostly not being used very much by most handsets. Any data usage was also ridiculously expensive. So there was little or no appetite to move to three.

We're approaching a stage now where any new phone which doesn't provide 3G services like email and IM will be disregarded by most people and it's the operator who provides the most competitive data costs that will win out in the end.

thanks, but i wouldn't be too hung up on customer service ratings if you don't need to contact them. i think i've only ever rang O2 less than 10 times in 11 years but i am interested in what the network is like from other users.

no "my mate" stories please, i don't believe 99% of hearsay but let me know good or bad what the 3 network is like for you

Ok then, i was with them and they were $hit.............is that good enough for you;)

I've been with them since just after they launched here.

Have only ever had one network type problem (earlier this year when something happened a tower beside where I work for a couple of days).

Customer Service is a bit annoying if you get India, but I've always found the Irish staff grand.

Being able to use your phone in the UK as if you were at home is very handy too.

sorry, i didn't mean you exactly. i meant the reader in general.

how were the sh!t? coverage, drops, etc?

i've spent years building telco networks and can tell you every dead O2 spot in south dublin but that doesn't mean that it's not a good service overall so that's why i'm interested in how and why and where three's network is good or bad.

    ta.

I also remember them having a peroid where customer service was based in Scotland.

They also had a time where even if you bought the phone in CPW only Three would deal with a problem with the phone, even when the point of purchase was the place you were meant to go.

I had to get the regional manager involved to get away from them.

I like having the 083 number for business as you'd be amazed how many people even now say............are they new ??????

But i don't want their network or customer service.

I have to wonder, what sort of crazy **** are you all doing with your phones that you require customer service for?

The only time I've dealt with customer service on any mobile network in the last 10 years or so (and I can count the number of times on my hands) is to ask for upgrades or to cancel contracts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 987 ✭✭✭Kenny Powers

If you were ever with 3 you would know why. Nothing but problems esp when it comes to data. You report a network problem they don't want to know about it I was with them for a year and left a year later I gave them another try and nothing had changed even places down the country I told them had a problem were never fixed for example I was down west and kept getting no access to the 3 network.

I was with Three for a grand total of about 5 years, 2 in the UK, 2 in Ireland and for about the last year in Ireland with a mobile broadband dongle.

Only once have I called them about anything outside of cancellation and upgrading, and that time I spoke with a nice Scottish lady who was very helpful about adjusting the add-ons on my account for me.

I've been on O2 Ireland also for 2 years now, and also - never had to speak to them. I've had issues with data on all networks, nothing that a quick Google search couldn't sort out though. Maybe I'm just averse to ever contacting customer service because I'm sure I'll know more than them.

I've been with three for years and I'd recommend them.

I don't see it mentioned but the '1 free addon' is only for 10months. In case anyone hasn't read it.

    From T&C's:
    "...from mid-September 2010 until 30th June 2011."

I'm in my second month with 3 now. Have an iPhone 3GB, and was sick to death of VF and their "website". Went into the shop and explained that I'd like to keep my options open if and when 3 were doing iPhone 4. She went through the options and pointed out the Relax 350 tariff @ €49pm, only doubled to 700 flexi-units, and if I went sim-only there was 25% reduction on tariff, bringing it to approx €36pm. I just got my bill and its 50% off, the bill is €24.50 per month, so I'm in no hurry to change to their iPhone plan. Reception is very good everywhere I have been so far. Small glitch with the iPhone that I need to put it in and out of airplane mode every now and again to get it onto the 3G network

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭fbradyirl

I bought an iPhone 4 from the UK unlocked a month ago.

Got myself a 3pay sim card, and ported over from O2. Now I'm paying €20 per month as opposed to the €60-70 I was paying on O2.

The Three network coverage is better for me than O2, where I need it. I am getting 3G in the places where I was only getting 'EDGE' on O2. Now, this will differ from person to person according to where you live/work. I know there are black spots in certain areas in the country where there doesn't seem to be any data coverage (seems to be voice coverage everywhere).

So my advice would be to walk into a Three shop and grab a free 3pay sim card and pop it into your current phone. Then you can measure the signal strength in the places where it is most important for you. If you're happy, then make the switch. If you're not happy, then go elsewhere.

Other things I like about Three:
    - I am often going up north, so it's nice that I don't ever have to worry about roaming charges (voice/data)

    - I used the Speedtest.net app on both O2 and Three on my iPhone and consistently get double the speed on Three (3.5MB downlink) in Galway.

    - Three have the national broadband scheme so their 3G can only get better, whereas in the past few years on O2 I haven't noticed any improvements in coverage

The only time I've dealt with customer service on any mobile network in the last 10 years or so (and I can count the number of times on my hands) is to ask for upgrades or to cancel contracts.

I've never been with three, but as an example, while I was with O2:

-Ten(lengthy) phonecalls trying to solve a billing issue. Basically I changed banks, and my DDs were transferred over. They all worked fine except for O2, who claimed their request for money had been refused. This went on for four months, and all they kept telling me was 'it's a problem on your bank's end, talk to them'. I did, and they told me in no uncertain terms that they had no issues. I re-setup the DD to no avail.

So I rang O2 once more and threatened to leave. Two minutes later I was sorted, and the money came out immediately. As a sign of goodwill I got almost 6 months of line rental free. But not my time back.:)

    - I had an issue with a text bundle add-on which wasn't being added despite continual calls to them (which meant I was paying full whack for loads of texts). They kept refusing to acknowledge there was an issue, and refused to refund me the difference in price between the texts I should have had, and those I should have paid for. Again, I threatened to leave and they had it sorted in a day, with a refund for all texts, not just the difference in price.

    - I got a SE phone from them a few years back. The phone was a dud, and kept turning itself off. I went back to the O2 store a week after buying it where they said after a cursory examination that it was water damage, despite the fact that the phone wasn't near water for the first six hours of its life when it turned off continually.

I rang O2 who kept telling me to go back to the shop, and even said something along the lines of 'couldn't you pay to get it repaired?' Eventually I sent in a letter to one of the bigwigs in there, and said I was disgusted with the treatment. I had a new phone within a week. I asked for a copy of the report on the phone and they said there was no water damage.

My experience of O2 is that they're quite good once they've decided you do have an issue, but worse-than-useless to deal with. Though that may have changed. I don't know if that's the same elsewhere, but it's easy to see how a few problems can mean you ae stuck dealing with them quite often.

    Hi Guys

I recently joined Three - I'm on a best-of-both 45 plan, only about 2/3 weeks ago....does anyone know if there are any options available to me?

EG - Can I just move to a higher iphone plan, or do I just have to sit and wait months until I'm due an upgrade, or do I simply have to buy sim-free ?

Anyone had any experience with something similar.
