We have an '08 Nissan Qashqai and want to change it for an '09 VW Golf. From checking cbg and carzone dealers seem to be selling them at the same price.

Do you think they'd do a straight swap? I know they put work in to the cars they sell and would prob want a few quid for that. We could put about €500 towards it but that would be the limit

Doubt they'd switch for €500, they'd then only be making money when they sell your car, so they'd have to warranty and prepare for sale two cars and only make money on one of them. Although the Qashqai should sell quite easily (folks love them).

Agree with Roverjames above I think they would be looking for 2 to 3k extra with your car. Carzone values are fairly meaning less in this situation.

May I ask OP why your looking to change?

Ill put it this way; the price on Carzone is the price they would be expecting to get for your car. If they want to make a profit they are going to want to buy the car off you for probably at least a couple of grand less than than they will sell if for, therefore I would imagine it is unlikely they would entertain a straight swap or even €500. Not unless they felt that your car was worth a few grand more to them than the Golf is.

Husband had an '08 Golf before we got the Qashqai and it was his favourite car. Now I'm getting a second hand estate car we don't need something as big as the Qashqai and he wants to go back to the golf. Think he'd go for an '08 either as long as it was in good condition.

Going to ring around and see what they say - no harm in asking I suppose. Was wondering if anyone had done anything similar

Golf and Qashqai are the same class of car so are around the same size. To be honest your going to have to pony up a fair bit of cash to do this. I looked at this before and it wasn't feasible.

It was a Golf I was looking to get rid of.

As you said OP the only way to do it is ring around but just be ready for high costs to change

Cost to change will be in the region of 20%.

Let's face it, what business wants to trade on margins less than that?

Find a seconhand Golf in a Nissan dealer and you'll have some chance butwill cost a least a couple of grand

Thanks for the replies. He's going to call in to the VW dealer he bought his last golf from and have a chat. Hopefully they can sort something out - he really loves the golf :D

    Why not just sell privately?

    Why not just sell privately?

+1, a Qashqai may well be sellable relatively easily privately.
