Replacing pipes under sink

    Hi All,

Have a few questions about replacing the pipes located under my sink.
I've always wondered about doing this as they take up a fair amount of space and now that im considering getting a Dishwasher I thought it best to attempt.

Attached are 2 pics with the Ubend pipe. Apart from the sink waste there is also a washing machine attached.
As you can see there is a cavity behind the kitchen units. Ideally I would like to move the bulk of the Ubend to in that cavity to claim abck some space.

Has anyone any tips or recommendations on how to achieve this?
Are there smaller pipes available for doing such a thing?

    All help is appreciated.

    Thanks

    JP

You can get a space saver kit from macalpine this is used to bring the trap to the back of the unit as far as possible it might suit you have a look before you buy it to be sure.

    http://www.mcalpineplumbing.com/index.asp

Go onto the product list , go to 1 1/2 inch /40mm space saver kits for multi bowl sinks ................. in this list is actually a diagram of a single bowl kit see if that would suit you.

That link does not appear to be working.

I wasn't able to find either part suggested.

Sorry, stupid me. Missed the item in the waste traps list.

The single bowl kit looks about right.
Would I have to use the whole kit or could the first 2 pieces bought separately work?

That looks like it might work.

I assume I can just get another part to connect the trap up to the Washing machine / Dishwasher?

Thanks btw to both of you.

You should really have a complately seperate waste trap and outlet pipe for a washing machine.

Not a good idea to plumb a washing machine and dishwasher into the sink trap/outlet.

This has been debated before and im not going to get into it, if the pipe isnt partially blocked and has all the correct falls etc , there is no issue whatsoever with doing this , i have hooked mains water up to these washing machine connections , and ran the sink at the same time and it cleared the water no problem whatsoever.

If the pipework was old and i was unsure of its falls or if it seemed partially blocked or dodgy i would say run a seperate one .

Awesome. Will have to order that this week so as I installed a Dishwasher over the weekend and as a temp measure it's connected to the current trap.
I also need to find a good Y-connection for the mains water as the Dishwasher is current connected to the hot water connector and I want to avoid any damage to the machine by forgetting to turn off the water heater!

Bought one of the Easyplumb ones in Homebase over the weekend (Y-connector) but it is terrible and does not fit correctly, so any suggestions would be very welcome.

    Thanks again Outkast.

As we said earlier if your connecting the waste hoses in this way make sure the waste isnt partially blocked or anything like that or it could result in it backing up.

Sorry never use the y connecters usually just put a 1/2 tee on the line and do it the proper way.
