So now that the dust is starting to settle over the awesome 'Cage Contender 5' its hard to ignore the impressive growth Irish Mma has been experiencing. More and more people are genuinely interested in Irish Mma. Some of you have even started voicing your opinions as to which fighters you would like to see go toe to toe here domestically. Thats great. Please continue-get involved-and you never know you might even make the promoters/match makers job a little easier ;) just to get the ball rolling (for what its worth) i am really happy with the 'Liam Shannon v Cathal Pendred' re-match(it was sooo close) and great to watch-well done both fighters,i am looking forward to the re-match already :) I think 'Myles Price v Norman Parke' would be awesome(both fighters were unbelievable on Sat night)I am very much looking forward to seeing Joe Clarke making his irish pro debut-but against who???? If John Donnelly gets the w at 'Clan Wars' who's next for him??? And who is gonna take on Paul McVeigh after his impressive performance at the weekend??? Is he on his way to the 'WEC'??? so lets have it folks-who would you pay good money to go see slug it out?

Only name that springs to mind for Paul McVeigh is Neil Seery. If Paul doesn't get the WEC contract and he wants to fight in Ireland I think Neil would give him the best fight.

I'm not ****-stiring or trying to cause another internet ruckus but I think the Hammerhead gym guy and Will Heffernam would make a great match up. They both write really funny blog posts so I'd love to see them spar off on boards to hype it up.

I think everyone likes to watch Owen Roddy fight and Tim Murphy hasn't fought in a while, not sure if a rematch makes sense but it would be entertaining.

Clive Stauntan and someone like Emmet McNally would also be a cracker, not sure if they're at the same weight anymore etc.

A lot of "new" guys on the scene that I don't really know much about so like to be pleasantly surprised at the next one.

    Seriously?.

But the time the title fights came on half the audience had left the building, and as much as I love the domestic MMA scene, I think its still a very local thing. With a very local following.

As for who I'd like to see, dunno tbh, I'd be a terrible match maker :o

Ill start by mentioning fights ive already talked about in other threads.

Would love to see Mconnell vs Price
Pendred vs Richard Gorey would also be a great fight.

    Other fights on my mind,
    Roddy vs tim murphy 2.
Ben Davis vs Norman Parke is another one I'd like to see (Not sure if ben is fighting at lighteright or not these days though)
Gotta few more but dunno if the weights are right. Will check and get back.

Norman Parke earned his shot at Myles for the title, give the fans what they want to see..

Norman would justifiably point to beating Myles Price convincingly only a couple of months ago, but now Myles holds the title so I think that has to happen again. I'm sure Norman would want it and Myles would like a good test of his upgraded clinch and ground skills. I'd like to see that.

Davis and Parke fought not so long ago with Norman winning I don't think that's a goer.

I think KTP and SBG are training together quite a bit so Pendred and Gorey is probably not a goer either.

I think Emmet McNally is retired, and I'm not sure about Tim Murphy but I know most of his time is spent on the internet now so he might not be able to take time off :D.

Seery and McVeigh might be good but Neil is at flyweight now and from what I'm hearing I'd say he'll stay there, Paul is bantam.

    My picks
    Pendred vs. Donnelly :)
Loughran vs. Parkes 2, though I'd be just as happy to see this never happening if it meant these guys were successful internationally.
    Oglesby vs. Burger King

    My picks
    Pendred vs. Donnelly :)

Never thought of that, Prendrad is the Champ and Donnelly is without doubt the best in the division, he needs to be beaten before anyone can claim to be the number 1 in Ireland, he might claim a different title before this and then thats the 1 all will want..

as for the cc show it was 1 of the best shows iv ever been to...just the canvas was abit slippery..one time during the fight i threw a head kick and thought i was goin on my ass..lol..:)

matchmaking was 1st class..paul cowzers fight was amazing..it was the 1st time alot of my friends where at a mma show and they absolutely loved the experience.

What didn't impress you about his win? You can only fight the person infront of you and he won, if I remember right he made the other guy tap, didn't he?

sure some pre fight hype always good for the ticket sales :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,549 ✭✭✭✭cowzerp

The fight is a guarantee in my opinion-both fighters want it and it will sell tickets, John Ferguson knows business and will be loving this, i'd be shocked if this fight is not on in Belfast on cage contenders.

3 awesome match ups Barry. The winner of 'Pendred v Shannon' would be awesome for 2011-Loughran v Parkes would be killer but seems like might not happen and the burger king one........ i hear ya man ha ha its just soooo damn tasty :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 gatecrasher69er

    itl sure sell tickets alright....:D

as for the fight with greg and me..it will never happen!!

greg was offered to fight the winner of myles and begley and wants nothing 2do with it...so whos next in line...yep me..:)..the belt has to be defended at least once in 6months...its a rule under cc..

i can really fell this all bubbling....belfast would b electric in november..it has to happen.....:D:D

Donnelly has been offered the fight against the winner of the rematch between Cathal and Liam. My plan is for this fight to be on a bill in Dublin at the start of Febuary 2011

As for Myles v Norman it wont happen in the next show because i have Myles fighting in the UK and most likely the US before the end of the year.

It won't be Myles dodging you Norman, that's for sure. He asked for a rematch on my show not long after your first fight together, so I doubt he would have much trouble stepping back into the ring with you. Though now he has the title I would imagine you would have to wait your turn, I would like to see this fight too, I think it would be a great one.
I like the paraphrase of GSP in your post btw.

Re: waiting his turn- who would be the number one contender if not Norman? Who else is as dominant at 70kg than him?

I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here as I'd just love to see that fight again now that Myles is now Myles 2.0

Thanks for putting me at that level, but in reality Neil Seery is the no,1 Bantam in Ireland at present, he is fighting Damien Rooney who is probably no,2 in oct/nov i think on cage contender and the winner of that will have the best claim to fight Paul for the belt, thats if Paul even defends that belt at all.

wouldnt mind seeing the fight between paddy holohan and joe clarke originally on cc5 or holohan vs sitenkov would be tasty if it hit the mat. would like o see whoever emerges from this interesting lookin welterweight title triangle matched up against one of the upper tier uk lads , the likes of jimmy wallhead or the winner of the upcoming john maguire vs wayne murrie bout, as i reckon any matchup of those names would produce an irish winner. and while welterweights are being mentioned , any truth tom egan is fighting in the autumn time in the u.s.

Most of the fights i would like to see include the guys i used to represent.
But there are some others to tho so im not too biased!!

Martin Begley vs Chris Stringer : One ive actively hunted for some years but never got booked.
Martin Begley vs Alan Hannon II: I missed the first one but i belive it was an epic back and forth battle.
Martin Begley vs Tommy Maguire III: Martin won the first fight and Tommy returned the favor in the second fight. Would love to see the trilogy completed.
Martin Begley vs Norman Parke: Simply because i belive Norman is the best Lightweight we have and Martin always wants to fight the best.

Kevin Carney vs Owen Roddy: Ive always liked Owens style and think he would bring out Kevins crazy brawler side.
Kevin Carney vs Peter Wilson: Again one ive hunted but never got.
Kevin Carney vs Shane Thomas: Nearly had this fight on three occasions but somethings always came up.
Kevin Carney vs Tim Murphy: I think Tim is the best FW we have and id like to see how far Kevin has came.

Mark Lietch vs Ryan Boyd: (HW C-Class) Think this would be a good local fight with Mark being with Red Dragon and Boyd just up the road in Ballymena.

Conor Cooke vs Pat McCallister: (WW/MW C-Class) I think this would be a good contrast in style. Conor is a top quality striker and Pat is a powerful wrestler.

Well thats our guys but heres some others:

Darren Hughes vs Peter Duncan: Tried to get this booked a couple of shows ago but never worked out. Think its on Clan Wars no tho.
Neil Seery vs Damo Rooney: This fight will answer a few questions about Damien for me. I really wanna see how he copes with Neils agressive GNP. Again i think this one is now booked.
Paul Cowzer vs Steve McCombe II: I think this would be a cracker.
Ali MacClean vs Chad Biddle: Dunno if Chad is still in the country but i would like to see two good wrestlers fight on a domestic show.
Daniel Abrol vs Hugh Brady: Havnt seen Daniel in a while last i heard he had a neck problem but i think Hugh and him would be explosive.
Lee McKibben vs John Donnelly: Lee is a good all-rounder and so is John could be interesting.
Kevin MacAlonon vs Sebastian Torres: Kevin is one of the best we have and id like to see him face someone with the reported skill Seb is said to have.

    Well theres a few anyway.

I have also told you thats Myles wants the rematch with you, this is a matter of timing, nothing else.
