    Hello,
26 or 27 years ago my father received planning permission to build a home and shed in donegal. He first built a brick shed to store building materials, then built the foundations of the house. The house was never built, but he has now decided to apply for planning again. My question regards the fact that he plans on increasing the size of the shed to 6x6 metres. I currently stands 3x2 metres. Can he do this first without planning?

    Thanks for any replies.

You are talking about a shed in the context of eventually being within the curtilage of a dwelling house, so no the shed cannot be increases to 6m x 6m without planning permission.

In fact since the piece of land does not have a dwelling house nor does it have the benefit of planning permission for a dwelling, it can not be classed as a site. In this case no planning exemptions associated with a dwelling site apply.

Thank you for you quick reply.

I didn't think he could just extend it. One more thing, with my father never actually building the house could he be asked to remove the shed or can it stay because it's been there so long?

    Thanks once again.
