i'm using a stand bag with a powakaddy at the moment, but i really like the idea of just throwing my clubs in the boot and off i go instead of packing my big cart bag, big powakaddy, big heavy battery,

i like to hear your views, ie pros and cons

handicap 16 just in case that comes into play, as it always seems to be low hadicap players carrying there bags

    I have bag and trolly.

But thinking of changing to carrying bag, less gear to be setting up and main reason is i can walk across greens etc and take short way around, bring clubs with me into rough etc. Just think i'd prefer it overall

its only a small thing but bugs me sometimes having to go the long ways around a green to get to my ball and having to leave the trolly is a handy spot for moving on so that its not wasting time and holding up groups behind

so so far on the + side we have,
    1 less walking,
    2 easy for transport

what about on the flip side
1, carrying a bag for 18 holes surely it's takes a bit out of you
2, what about when it's raining?

If I'm playing 9 holes I'll bring my stand bag but if I'm playing 18 I'll bring the trolley.
I always used to carry my bag on my back but I just cant do it anymore for 18 holes due to getting a sore back.
18 holes carrying around a full set of clubs on your back as well as umbrella, balls, waterproofs, bottle of water ,gloves, takes its toll.
Sometimes in the summer I might bring a half set out with me and carry that.

I guess it's down to personal preference. Myself, I use a standbag. I like to carry my clubs which gives me mobility. Also, it's good exercise. However, most of my mate use trolley. They claim it gives them that bit more of energy coming down the stretch than carrying a bag of clubs. I am playing 36 holes in Mount Worlseley tomorrow and will be use a trolley for the first time. So I 'll be able to comment more on this after tomorrow.

A stand bag on a trolley.
Carry to the range or for a few holes.
Trolley for a round or more.

+1 that's what I do. In the summer if it's dry and you don't need to bring a brolly or rain gear then I carry the bag. Maybe take a couple of clubs out to make it even lighter.

Big bag + everything in it at all times, trolley (now electric) and the whole lot in the boot of the car at all times so pretty much always ready for golf.
Like the carry bag and a half set, couple of balls and out for 9 on a summers evening but that rarely happens for me anymore. Reluctant to leave out the wet gear, umbrella, towel, mitts! This is Ireland you know?

Exact same here, always have my golf gear in the car "just in case"

Both for me everything kept in cart bag
Stand bag used all winter and when travelling away or just going out for a few holes.....when that used to happen

I couldnt leave all the gear in the boot principally because of all the other sh1t that gets lifted in and out of it from monday to sunday... and also on account of the bag not getting aired properly if left it in after a wet day and leaving the boot smelling like bulls musk!
i got a stand bag and use it all year round now. yes you do notice it after say 16 holes but i wouldnt say it impacts on your swing... on the contrary it makes me focus more on maintaining swinging freely and smoothly. Doesnt always work in honesty. The huge plus for me over a cart bag is you can take the standbag anywhere with you. so for example club selection isnt determined by what i have in my hand if i left the trolley back on the fairway while im in the heavy stuff or in trouble. Also you can mark cards as you walk and finally ive been getting into the habit of cleaning grooves as often as i can when walking. especially wedges. But if you have any history of back trouble go with the trolley option.

First time using a trolley today out in Mount Worslely. Lovely course by the way, €20 if you are on the O2 network with O2 Treats. Normally use a carry bag playing. Today, using the trolley, my back is not as stiff as the carry bag and I was able to go around for another 18 holes in the afternoon.

I guess it is down to personal fitness and preferences. As I said, it is easier for the body to go around the course since you are not carrying the load, but I will go back to the carry bag tomorrow when I am playing. For me, it's good excercise!!
