I usually only get blu rays that it will add to the film to have the extra high def.
Transformers even though its pretty poor does look great.

Speed racer is my all time favourite blu-ray its light years ahead of any other filming process. Just looks stunning.
    Sunshine is also up there.
    Moon
    District 9
    Dark knight/batman begins double pack
    March of the penguins
    Nightwatch
    Kung fu hustle

Spinal tap should be in every collection

And for some of the most stunning filming ever seen Planet Earth box set.

Hmm films or Playstation... films or Playstation :p

I guess this is a fair enough place for it, since it is related to Playstation issues.

Incidentally, the best Blu-Ray is probably not a film at all, but Planet Earth / Life boxsets from BBC. Stunning photography, making the best possible use out of high-def cameras. The making ofs on the latter are as interesting as the show itself! Plus, the always soothing voice o' Attenborough!

I'd also strongly recommend animated films as the purtiest Blu-Rays around, particularly the Pixar films, as they tend to have glorious 16:9 ratio conversions. This is as opposed to letterboxed 2.35:1 films, which a large amount of live action films will be filmed in with cinema in mind (not all, but some). It means black bars, but is ultimately more beneficial as it keeps the director's and cinematographer's vision intact. Hence, animated films can be more impressive, without as much compromise. Up looks utterly glorious in high-def. Plus, it's Up, so naturally brilliant anyway.

Edit: oh, The Dark Knight looks cool too, but only the IMAX scenes. Film actually switches aspect ratio during these scenes (mostly action sequences and helicopter establishing shots). It's a bit weird when it keeps switching between 16:9 and 2.35:1, but man those IMAX scenes look great. Almost as good as when I saw them in an IMAX screen :pac:

Any Pixar film looks fantastic on blu-ray, but I always end up showing the opening of Wall-E in particular. People usually get so glued we end watching the whole thing.

Band of Brothers looks great too. There Will Be Blood and The Assassination of Jessie James looks fantastic too. The Dark Knight has been mentioned and is indeed fantastic. Pretty much every movie looks better on Blu-Ray so just have a think of any film you've seen in the cinema that looked particularily good and the blu-ray will almost certainly be fantastic.

The director's cut of Watchmen that you can order from the US is region-free and looks great. Had a really good commentary, with picture in picture video commentaries with the director and often the film will stop while it cuts away to the director explaining how they did the scene. Really good feature and show what's possible with Blu-Ray.

Here is another tiered rating of Blu-Rays:

Other ones for Audio quality, and others for "remastering".

+1 For Avatar, I actually bought this when it first came out on blue ray. Only got around to watching it last night. Every single scene is a work of art, it is that beautiful!
The only problem is the cheesy as hell script " They have come to take our forest, they have come to take away our way of life"

Yada yada yada, well don't look now but they've already been and taken away the script writers!

Come on Mr Cameron, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I couldn't agree more. It was the first Blu-ray set I bought and even now I still go back occasionally to marvel at it.

Wall.e as mentioned by someone else is a definite muct if you have you PS linked into a surround sound system. The musical score and attention to detail in the sound is amazing.

I would reccommend Baraka. Though it's not a typical film, it's a collection of scenes of life around the world.

Some info from wikipedia on it:
Following previous DVD releases, in 2007 the original 65 mm negative was re-scanned at 8K (a horizontal resolution of 8192 pixels) with equipment designed specifically for Baraka at FotoKem Laboratories. The automated 8K film scanner, operating continuously, took more than three weeks to finish scanning more than 150,000 frames (taking approximately 12–13 seconds to scan each frame), producing over 30 terabytes of image data in total. After a 16-month digital intermediate process, including a 96 kHz/24 bit audio remaster by Stearns for the DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, the superior result was finally re-released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in October, 2008. Project supervisor Andrew Oran says this remastered Baraka is "arguably the highest quality DVD that's ever been made".[1] Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert describes the Blu-ray release as "the finest video disc I have ever viewed or ever imagined.

    Try these,
    Blade Runner
    Blood Diamond
    The Thing
Zulu, probably the best picture quality, (filmed in 70mm)
    Casion Royale
    Quantum of solace
    Master and Commander
Kill Bill Vols I and II
    King Kong
    Valkyrie
    Silverado
    Spiderman trilogy
    Zodiac
