I'm thinking of moving from PC to iMac whenever the new update is announced. What's the best way of handling all the media I have on iTunes on the pc at the moment to ensure the easiest transfer to Mac? I've got loads of songs, photos and a good few movies. Do I have to back everything up onto DVD to then transfer to the Mac or is there a more painless way?

Copy the entire Itunes music folder from your PC in to the home>music>itunes folder in mac .. Everything including your playlists will remain the same :)

As for the photos' the same applies .. well mostly, if you wanna use iphoto, drag your photo folder into iphoto... movies can go in the movies folder so you can watch em with frontrow and remote control (assuming you have the codecs)

If you don't wanna have to burn it all which is a pain (i've got 120gigs of music and videos!) .. network the 2 together with a Lan cable or over wi-fi .. enable sharing on your windows PC and access it from the mac.

External hard drive would be easier again.

I may have to look at the external hdd option. If I do get a Mac I'll be needing to sell my current high-spec PC to help fund the iMac purchase, so I won't have both machines at the same time. Will most external drives work with iMac? I'd hate to copy everything only to discover afterwards that the drive is incompatible!

I'm using a 4 year old Maxtor 1TB drive (formatted in Windows) on a new iMac.
no problem at all accessing it via parallels 5.0.

You can currently buy a WD 1TB on Amazon for stg£51 and a 2TB model for stg£120.

You shouldn't have a problem, I just used my ext hd from use with My laptop and followed the instructions from the apple website without problem. Remember apple have made the switch to apple as easy as possible, it's only the switch to PC that generally causes problems. Good luck, it's the way forward.
